You will be part of DFM's quantum metrology team, which currently consists of 7 researchers. The team works with metrology for quantum key distribution, quantum enhanced measurement and imaging using nonclassical states of light, characterization of integrated photonic circuits, frequency stabilized lasers for optical clocks and quantum technology applications, frequency combs, time & frequency metrology, as well as MBE growth of novel quantum materials. Over the past 5 years DFM has been expanding the activity in metrology for quantum technology to address new metrology needs. We work to a large extent with self-developed setups and techniques, so it is of great importance that you master designing and building setups from the idea to a reliably operating system. Many of the activities take place in close collaboration with universities and companies through national and international research projects. The right candidate thrives on handling many tasks and projects at the same time.

Your tasks will support ongoing research projects and you may participate in 2-4 of the following potential activities: characterization of ultra-precise translational stages by laser interferometry, contributions to the development and test of compact frequency-stabilized lasers (optics, electronics, software), metrological characterization of components and systems for quantum key distribution and quantum random number generators, software development for measurement setups, and quantum enhanced measurement and imaging using nonclassical states of light. Your participation in these research activities will depend on your specific competences. In addition, we expect you to contribute to the writing of applications for new research projects and to build a strong network with companies and academia. Smaller contributions to DFM’s commercial activities can be expected.

Qualifications

  • You have a PhD in experimental quantum physics/optics.
  • Knowledge of techniques used for quantum optics experiments, including bulk and fibre optics, lasers, cavities, spectroscopy, electronics (DC, AC, RF), and data acquisition.
  • Designing and building setups from the idea to a reliably operating system.
  • Experience with C, C++, Python or equivalent.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • You are purposeful, quality-conscious, and solution-oriented.
  • Good collaboration skills, high commitment and thrive on challenges.
  • You have an eye for entrepreneurship and are constructive with new ideas at a high scientific level.

We offer
An international and dynamic working environment where there are excellent opportunities for professional and personal development in collaboration with highly qualified and committed colleagues. The work at DFM lies at the crossroads between universities, companies and international research collaborations with other countries' national metrology institutes.

About DFM A/S
DFM is the Danish National Metrology Institute and one of the 7 GTS institutes in Denmark. We possess the highest measurement competence in Denmark within a number of key measurement areas. Global comparability of measurements is ensured through collaboration with national metrology institutes in other countries and transferred to Danish companies via calibrations and reference materials. We work with the development of new measurement technology at a high scientific level, and our researchers are among the best in the world in the areas we focus on. DFM’s services and products are based on research results obtained in collaboration with companies, universities, and national metrology institutes.
