The Department of Environmental Engineering (DTU Environment) at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for an Associate Professor position in remote sensing of terrestrial hydrology and ecology.

The Associate Professor will serve in the Water Resources Engineering section, one of the six sections comprising the Department: Atmospheric Environment, Environmental Chemistry, Residual Resource Engineering, Urban Water Systems, Water Resources Engineering and Water Technology. The Water Resources Engineering Section focuses on management, protection and remediation of freshwater in natural settings like surface water in rivers and lakes and groundwater in shallow and deep aquifers.

The ideal candidate should work at the interface between science and engineering, be responsive to societal needs, have experience and ability to work in a collaborative international research environment, interact well with industrial partners, and be an outstanding and committed educator. The candidate must demonstrate personal qualities of leadership, flexibility, scientific curiosity, and have the ability to work collaboratively in teams, identify and develop new research areas, think holistically and in an interdisciplinary manner.

Responsibilities and tasks
The Associate Professor is expected to take leadership in developing the Department’s research and research-based teaching in the field of water resources engineering. Relevant research areas include

  • Land-atmosphere interaction
  • Dynamics of terrestrial hydrology and ecosystems
  • Thermal and hyperspectral sensing from satellite and airborne platforms.

The Associate Professor is expected to take a lead position in lecturing at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels. Lecturing is conducted in collaboration with other faculty members.

Furthermore, the Associate Professor is expected to take a leading role in collaboration with the other sections of the Department, other DTU departments, industry and other external stakeholders, and to facilitate wider knowledge-exchange with society at large.

A commitment to collaborate with the faculty and staff of the Department is essential.

Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship
  • document didactic/pedagogic training 

The applicant will be expected to have an internationally recognized research record and proven potential in the above fields. 

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to    

  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research impact and experience, funding track record, and research vision
  • Societal impact
  • Documented innovation activities, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • International impact and experience
  • Leadership potential and collaboration
  • Communication skills

Consideration will also be given to:

  • Experience with UAV-borne remote sensing methods and payload development
  • Documented experience in research proposal development and project fundingClear ideas about future research activities and how they will contribute to the development of DTU Environment
