Academic Technician at the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University: Organic Chemistry 951065

The Department of Chemistry and the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) are seeking applications for an academic position (AC-TAP), which includes technical, scientific, administrative, as well as teaching duties in the area of organic chemistry. 

The position is affiliated with the organic chemistry groups at the Department of Chemistry and iNANO and the main task is to maintain and provide expertise to standard equipment such as NMR, HRMS, HPLC, SPS etc for the organic chemistry students and teaching laboratories. The intended start date is March 1st, 2018, or as soon as possible, and the appointment is for 2 years with the possibility of extension.

The candidate is expected to contribute to:

  • Take responsibility for the maintenance of NMR and HRMS instruments used by organic chemists at Department of Chemistry and iNANO.
  • Provide expertise to students in NMR and HRMS experiments and run HRMS samples for students.  
  • Participation in teaching and development of laboratory courses in chemistry 
  • General maintenance of other standard equipment in the organic chemistry laboratories such as HPLC instruments, solvent purification systems and to some extend more specialized instruments.
  • Participate in writing processes of documents such as instrument manuals, protocols for laboratory exercises, grant proposals for equipment, and promotional material for the organic chemistry groups 
  • Various duties related to the Department of Chemistry and iNANO

The candidate will be a part of a team, which supports research in organic synthesis and its applications in chemistry, and which partly shares some of the daily duties. Furthermore, interactions with other teams is expected.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in organic chemistry and technical understanding of how to operate advanced laboratory instruments required for analysis of chemical compounds, in particular NMR, MS and HPLC. The candidate must have experience with, or interest in learning, maintenance of the equipment used on a daily basis in the organic laboratories. The candidate should be service-minded and interested in interacting with and helping students. The candidate should have good communication skills interact constructively with external instrument suppliers and service providers. The candidate must have a MSc or PhD degree in chemistry, medicinal chemistry or chemical engineering.
