Ballard Power Systems is the leading provider of innovative clean energy and fuel cell solutions. At Ballard Europe we are looking for a quality-conscious and dedicated software engineer to join our Software Team in our Technology and Product Development with primary base at our facilities in Hobro.

As our new Software Engineer your primary function is to participate in developing and testing of Controls Software. You will become a part of a dedicated team with five software engineers and a cyber security software specialist, who are reporting directly to a manager.

As a software engineer your main areas of responsibilities are:

  • Developing SW in real time on controllers using Codesys.
  • PLC programming – structured text and safety controller programming
  • Support system and software architect on building the required architecture to fulfill functional safety and cybersecurity goals.
  • Verify and validate software through the use of simulations, hardware-in-loop (HIL), software-in-loop (SIL) and lab/field testing.
  • Prepare technical documents, including component/system requirement and design documents, test plan/matrix and test report, and engage in the formal change management process.
  • Manage software version control and implement CI/CD testing/releasing methodology.
  • Taking part in planning the work in the team using Scrum and agile principles
  • Provide technical support and sparring, convey product knowledge and support training and education of relevant employees.
  • Work with model-based SW development using Mathlab

Who are you?
You have at least 3-5 years of experience from a similar position where you have gained with commissioning, tuning, and troubleshooting control systems – maybe from marine control systems or automotive. We expect that you have experience with Codesys and programming as well as knowledge about power device interfaces (LV/HV batteries, motor drives, inverters, contactors, DC/DC convertors etc.). You have previously worked with formal software version control (Git/SVN) and release/configuration management, FMEA and any type of hazard analysis thus being familiar with these work process and best practice.

As a company we are moving towards module-based SW development using MATLAB, so it would be an advantage with experience within this field. In addition, you might also have experience with ST, C++, Python, .NET, C# or an ability to quickly learn new languages and framework.

It would be highly preferred that you have knowledge about hardware, but the most essential is that you must be able to work from the understanding that there are no set boundaries between software and hardware, thus being able to visualize the functionalities and identify where to implement software. It is considered an advantage if you have knowledge of developing software for interdisciplinary products.

We envisage that you are an educated engineer within software, automation, mechatronics or similar.

As a person you, you are motivated by also being hands-on and not afraid to go to lab and engage in field testing. You use your strong analytical approach and structured way of working to document and ensure things are done in a systematic way. You are a team-player, who communicate on what is done and seek to create strong collaboration with the local and global team.

You thrive in a dynamic team and workday where your assignments are versatile and wide-ranging. You know how to deliver high quality results in a time-constrained environment due to your strong ability to prioritize, execute and meet deadlines. You master English at a professional level.

At Ballard Power Systems Europe we offer you

  • An exciting and independent job in a committed team that is highly dedicated and passionate about bringing our zero-emission technology to large scale commercialization.
  • Good career opportunities in a growing clean technology company and a unique opportunity to make your mark on an international business experiencing rapid growth.
  • A flexible and international workplace with great colleagues and a positive atmosphere
