The position
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic DevOps team within a bustling software department of approximately 50 professionals, encompassing developers, testers, and managers. This role is pivotal in supporting and improving the tooling and processes that enhance the efficiency and experience of our development teams, as well as managing our diverse test and build environments. Our infrastructure spans cloud-based solutions, virtual machines in a server farm, and physical on-site servers.

Hottinger Brüel Kjær (HBK) develops measurement systems with inputs from a broad range of sensor and signal types within domains as durability & fatigue, sound & vibration, and e-drive. Our customers are typically manufacturers within the high-end automotive, aerospace, white goods or telecom industries and our measurement systems are often used within the customer’s R&D or test departments for evaluation of designs with respect to performance and quality.

Primary responsibilities
You will be part of a small yet mighty team of DevOps professionals, where together, we manage a broad range of solutions across Jenkins, SVN, git, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and more, with an exciting future focus on transitioning more extensively to GitHub.

Our development teams primarily use Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code, working mostly in C#, with a portion of our codebase still in C++ among other tools and languages. This role will require a hands-on approach to maintaining and improving our development infrastructure, facilitating a seamless workflow for our software development lifecycle.

Professional qualifications

  • Programming/Scripting Languages: Proficiency in C# due to the development environment. Knowledge of C++ and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell is highly beneficial.

  • Version Control Systems: Extensive experience with Git (including GitHub and Azure DevOps) and SVN for source code management.

  • CI/CD Tools: Expertise in setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Azure DevOps, and GitHub Actions.

  • Cloud Services: Hands-on experience with cloud service providers, particularly Azure, including but not limited to cloud computing, storage, and networking services.

  • Networking Fundamentals: Knowledge of networking concepts (DNS, HTTP/s, TCP/IP) and security practices (firewalls, VPNs, access controls).

  • Operating Systems: Comfortable working with both Windows and Linux environments, given the diverse infrastructure.

  • Containerization and Orchestration: Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies for containerization and orchestration is an advantage.

  • Software Development Background: Previous experience as a software developer, especially in environments using Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code, is highly advantageous for understanding the development lifecycle and the developers' needs.

Personal skills
As a key player in our team, you'll bring a blend of technical prowess and social skills, contributing positively to our team culture and collaborating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

With significant projects on the horizon, including transitioning a large software base to modern tooling, we value forward-thinking and the ability to navigate and lead through change.
