PtX test facilities located at AU Viborg is at the forefront of the development within Power-to-X. Researchers from Biological and Chemical Engineering department together with industrial partners, are developing and demonstrating technology for production of new green fuels and chemicals from biogas and renewable electricity.

We now have an opening for a research assistant to be part of the team working on the production of renewable fuels via a new, promising route.
 
Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a 1–year position from 15 Sep 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. 

Job description
You will become part of a dedicated project team, operating and developing our research facilities, with special emphasis on the eSMR (electrified steam methane reformer) and high-pressure/high-temperature electrolyser plants for producing renewable fuels from biogas and electricity.

More specifically, you will be involved in the daily operation of our pilot plants, including modification of utilities and equipment, operation of the plant, preparing and executing experiments, and data crunching and analysis from the plant.

The position relates to projects funded by the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program, conducted in close collaboration with Topsoe A/S and other industrial partners.

Your profile

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, or similar
  • Solid knowledge of chemical processes and process technology
  • Good skills in analysis, interpretation, and communication of experimental results
  • Aptitude for hands-on work, including technical troubleshooting, modification of equipment etc.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited direction, and within a team environment.
  • Fluency in English – written and oral

Favorable competences:

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in process control and PLC programming.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical system
  • Experience working on pilot/industrial plants

Who we are
The Institute of Biological and Chemical Engineering (BCE) has strong research sections in Environmental Engineering and Materials & Process Engineering. Close collaboration with our neighboring Departments (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Molecular Biology & Genetics, iNano, Biosciences, Food, Agroecology, and Chemistry) is a natural part of our culture. The successful applicant will be working with Chemical Engineering and will produce and disseminate knowledge and research results. Translation of results into solving relevant societal challenges is a highly prioritized part of our work.

In AU Viborg, BCE runs a test facility for research within biological and chemical energy conversion technology, with special emphasis on different power-to-x technologies. The facility hosts experimental facilities of different scales, ranging from lab scale to several pilot scale facilities, enabling research into upscaling chemical and biological processes. With more than a decade as a hub for the development and demonstration of technologies at different industrial scales and readiness level, the site’s flexible utility setup enables easy integration of technologies for stand-alone testing, as well as testing of combinations of technologies. Utilities include cooling, biogas storage, gas supply infrastructure (Biogas, H2, CO2), gas flare, etc., and the facility is supported by an operational organization including trained operators and a safety organization.

Deadline

Formalities and salary range
Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
