A window is much more than meets the eye. We offer a rare opportunity for a patent engineer to join Group IPR at VKR Holding. If you are passionate about innovative product development, advanced material technologies, physics, mechanics, sensors, IoT, etc., and wish to work within the framework of an ambitious sustainability agenda, we invite you to join us on some of the most exciting development projects in the history of the VKR Group. You will work with some of the best in their respective fields, in an environment that is professionally challenging but characterized by mutual respect, common goals, and shared values.

Your Role
You will be part of Group IPR based at VKR Holding. We work closely with our colleagues in the product development systems of the VELUX and DOVISTA Groups. Group IPR currently consists of three experienced patent engineers and two trademarks and domain names specialists.

Your primary role will involve supporting product development projects by engaging in idea harvesting, novelty and clearance searches, IP landscaping, competitor technology monitoring, product teardown analysis, sparring, assist in developing and implementing project-specific IP protection strategies, instructing external patent agents in drafting and prosecuting IP applications. You will also assist in defending our IPR and ensuring that valid third-party rights are not infringed. In addition, you will assist colleagues in Group Legal in IPR issues related to sourcing, third-party joint development activities, as well as M&A activities.

Whether a project is assigned to you personally or is managed in cooperation with your colleagues in Group IPR, we collaborate as we know that we are better together. We believe in openness and inclusion in our internal decision-making processes and expect you to contribute not only with your professionalism but also with your human qualities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating closely with colleagues in VELUX and DOVISTA in product development projects, providing support, guidance and advice on IP-related matters
  • Ensuring idea harvesting and IP protection aligned with applicable patent strategies.
  • Conducting patent and patent landscape analysis as well as technology and competitor monitoring
  • Assisting in protecting the commercial and legal interests of the VKR Group, primarily by means of enforcing our patent portfolio
  • Partaking in strategy development and implementation, improvement of internal processes, and patent training activities.

We strive to maintain a balanced workload in an accommodating environment.

Your Profile
You hold a master’s degree in engineering (M.Eng. or M.S.E.) or a relevant degree (M.Sc. or PhD) in, for example, physics. We require a solid understanding of mechanics. The position requires 2+ years of work experience dealing with patents, either with a patent authority, a patent agency, or within an in-house patent department.

Don't be intimidated by the task portfolio! You may only have experience with a portion of the mentioned tasks, but if you have the interest, curiosity and basic knowledge, we will ensure ongoing training.

Your interpersonal skills enable you to build effective working relationships throughout the organization. Your analytical skills are strong and over time, you can communicate and render direct and clear advice. You communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken. A good understanding of German is an advantage.
