Responsibilities and qualifications
The position is in the Meteorology and Remote Sensing section at DTU Wind and Energy Systems. We conduct our research on how remote sensing techniques can be used for wind energy applications. You will be part of a team that works with satellite observations of meteorological parameters such as wind, rain, and lightning. You will use the satellite observations and ground based remote sensing data to map wind resources offshore, in order to investigate wind farms and their impact on the wind climate around them, and to predict the damaging effect of rain and lightning on wind turbine blades.

An important aspect of your daily work will be to participate actively in our current research projects, where you will manage projects and work packages, and interact with internal and external stakeholders. We expect  you  have profound experience in seeking funding for new projects to realize your own ideas and research objectives. You will have a large degree of freedom to plan, execute, and publish your research in collaboration with colleagues as well as external partners from the wind energy industry and other academic institutions.

Your primary responsibilities and tasks:

  • Retrieve wind, rain and lightning information from satellite observations.
  • Analyze satellite-based data sets in combination with other data types such as ground based remote sensing observations, in situ observations, and outputs from weather models.
  • Disseminate your results in international peer-reviewed journals and  conferences.
  • Participate in national and international research projects and take a coordinating role, when needed.
  • Contribute to the ongoing teaching and training activities offered by DTU Wind Energy. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

To apply for a senior researcher position you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc. To be appointed as a senior researcher, you must have completed a didactic/pedagogic education. If you do not have the necessary education, then it is possible to complete this requirement within a period of two years of appointment.

To apply for an associate professor position you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training (for an associate professor).

Furthermore, good English language communication skills are essential. Applicants should be highly motivated, ambitious, and eager to seek and share knowledge, whilst willing and able to work as part of a team as well as through interdisciplinary collaboration with industrial partners and across the different sections of DTU Wind and Energy Systems.

More specifically, you should have the following qualifications:

  • A strong background in meteorology, geophysics or similar.
  • Experience with analysis of spatial data sets from satellites, ground based remote sensing, or weather models.
  • Excellent project management skills including a flair for stakeholder management and coordination of complex projects and activities.
  • Competent programming skills in Matlab or Python.
  • Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) is an advantage.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills
