Here is a unique opportunity to be a central part of establishing the new Center of Exellence NanoPhoton. It is the ambition of NanoPhoton to develop the science and technology for a new class of nanostructures by combining fundamental electromagnetic and quantum optical theory with state-of-the-art nanofabrication and advanced experimental characterization techniques. This is expected to lead to ultra-small lasers and photodetectors, and will enable the integration of photonics and electronics.

As Senior Researcher, your task is to strengthen our activities within theory and simulation of advanced nanophotonic structures, as well contributing to the coordination and supervision of research activities in the DNRF Center of Excellence NanoPhoton.

Our ambitions are high. By combining the multi-disciplinary competencies in the new center, we aim to make important contributions to fundamental science as well as laying the foundation for green and sustainable technological solutions.

This position will bring you the possibility to:

  • Contribute to the theory and simulation of dielectric structures for extreme confinement of light, including applications in quantum photonics and optoelectronics.
  • Be in close interaction with experimentalists, including analysis of experimental results as well as proposal and analysis of new possibilities.
  • Disseminate the results of your work in high-quality journals and at international conferences.
  • Interact with and supervise PhD, masters, and bachelor students, including formulation of new projects.
  • Participate in teaching activities.
  • As Scientific Coordinator of the DNRF Center NanoPhoton you will play a central role in organizing the activities in the center. This includes planning, coordination and reporting of research activities, arrangement of meetings and workshops, communication activities, financial budgeting and recruiting of new people, all in collaboration with the administrative coordinator and the center leader.

As formal qualification: You hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in engineering or physics and you have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as researcher or postdoc.

As an ideal candidate you should

  • Have solid background within the area of theoretical nanophotonics and quantum photonics.
  • Have a significant experience on the development of numerical schemes for simulating the electromagnetic properties of nanostructured optical materials.
  • Have strong knowledge about quasi-normal modes, and their use for simulating and modelling optical structures.
  • Have experience in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Have excellent communication skills in English, written and oral.
  • Have a flexible, resourceful, and self-motivated way of working.

You should also take personal responsibility for your work and have a good track record of publications in well-esteemed journals. As the rest of the team, you should have an ambitious mind-set that make you strive to achieve world-class results.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicants qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Ministerial Order on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities
