Ships powered by our engines transport 75% of the world’s seaborne goods. Over 500 big ships with MAN engines are launched every year. They join the vast fleet of container vessels, bulk carriers, tankers and other ships that carries out the transports necessary in our globalized world.

From a climate perspective, shipping is a very effective way of transporting goods over long distances. However, in a time of climate change and global warming, we need to think in new ways and develop new technology to reduce the carbon footprint of seaborne transport. We, who work with engine design in MAN Energy Solutions in Copenhagen, are in a good position to do just that.

The job
As an engineer working with in the fuel equipment department, you will design and model the fuel equipment of the future. You will be working with absolute cutting edge technology within fuel equipment for large, two stroke engines. Fuel booster injection valves, gas blocks, gas admission valves and hydraulic control blocks are examples of components you could be a leading expert in, after a few years with us.

You will bring ideas from concept, to finished design and follow it into service. The design work takes place in cross-functional teams with a wide range of competences, as well as in smaller teams within the department. Ideas are discussed and designs are reviewed together with your colleagues. The primary design tools are CAD (Siemens NX) and in house calculation programs.

In addition to components ready for production, you will also design prototypes for testing. The tests take place either at our own test facility in Copenhagen, at our partners in East Asia or on ships in service. Our engines are produced in Japan, South Korea and China, and a couple of weeks of travels to these countries can be expected every year.

Qualifications
If you feel interested and inspired by reading the above, you are well on your way to become a suitable candidate. If you also have an appropriate engineering degree, and a desire to work with designing precision mechanics, you should send in your application.

Your new team
“In the fuel equipment department, we are passionate, ambitious and love what we do. We design components to make our engines more efficient and enable them to run on new fuels, with less environmental footprint. In cooperation with other departments, and our customers, we take concepts and ideas and turn them into commercial design, ready for production.” – Jörgen Marken, Head of Fuel Equipment.

You will be part of a team of 13 designers with a brought variety of backgrounds. We have an open culture; we thrive on challenges and support each other in an environment where we take united responsibility for our designs long after they have left the drawing board and entered service. In discussions, the ceiling is high and ideas can be lifted and analyzed together in a positive and constructive atmosphere.
