The first electric tram in Brazil goes into operation in Salvado

June 6, 1897 - The first electric tram in Brazil goes into operation in Salvador

In the 1860s the London subsidiary - responsible at the time for the overseas markets - supplied the South American country with telegraph cables. The decision to establish a permanent local presence proved right: in the same year Siemens & Halske received an order to design the first electric tram in Brazil.
