UX profile for product development projects

FOSS R&D seeks a user experience profile to support product development projects in ensuring a good user experience. 

Our challenge is to ensure that the quality of the user experience for our solutions meets the goals defined. Your tasks will be to assist and facilitate the user experience focused activities in the running development projects, so providing a good user experience to our users will be kept as a main focus and priority. 

You will belong in the Concept Development department but you challenges will be in the development project, after the concept development phase. Concept Development defines the level of user experience quality as part of concept design. You follow the development project to ensure and support good user experience in part of implemented in products. FOSS has multiple development projects running parallel with need for support at different intervals - so you need to be fast paced and effective. Concept Development incl. other UX profiles is your back-office. They will provide you with guidelines on design, how-to descriptions, and ping-pong with you on the challenges you will meet. 

Primary tasks

• Communicate persona, workflows, and other material created prior as part of concept design
• Plan and coordinate user test with selected customers – to enable usability test is executed
• Prepare, execute and report on usability test with representative users in collaboration with development teams
• Review the product design in projects during the development process on both graphical user interfaces and hardware design
• Be the voice of the customer and user in projects and user experience focused activities
• Outside-in perspective on all areas of the product; from installation and training, maintenance and trouble-shooting, servicing, etc.

Skillset

• Design Thinking and user centered approach, incl. methods and tools
• User experience design/customer experience methods and tools, especially within persona, workflows, and the holistic outside-in on FOSS products
• Usability testing, with documented experience - or abilities to quickly learn how to plan, prepare, and execute testing. This is an important skill.
• Planning and coordination of larger activities with multiple stakeholders
• Technical insight and understanding of technology is an advantage as projects are technology-driven

Personal skills
Some would call it a T-profile. You are knowledgeable about the entire product, from hardware to training and digital services, and at the same time dive into details and understand what is important. Your communication is clear, short and precise - without pushing people away - preferably using facts to make a point. You like to talk in front of many people. You are a people-person, forging alliances with all colleagues around the organisation.

Qualifications

• Min. 3 years of experience with product development, either HW or SW, preferably both
• Experience with UX, e.g. user research, define and design, review product design, support others in doing user experience design
• Experience with user interface design, preferably both digital and physical interfaces
• Model building skills - fast digital & physical mockups in the form of wireframes, click dummies, cardboards models, etc.
