Two Associate or Assistant Professors in biotechnology (852088)

Department of Engineering at Aarhus University, The Chemical and Biological Engineering Section, seeks 2 associate or assistant professors in biotechnology as soon as possible. The applicants must promote interdisciplinary research through collaboration with biologists, molecular biologists, chemists and other engineering disciplines as well as with the industry. 

The successful candidates are required to have strong academic backgrounds in biotechnology, experience with applied research, and preferably R&D experience from the industry. 

Expertise in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell biotechnology and biotechnological production is preferred. The ideal candidates have experience with one or several of the following disciplines:

  • Biological engineering of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell, gene modifications, and selection mechanisms.
  • Production and processing of specific microbes, proteins, antibodies carbohydrates and bulk chemicals in laboratory and pilot scale.
  • Bioengineering of proteins.
  • Biotechnological production and its industrial up scaling and design.  

The candidates must demonstrate ability to conduct basic and applied interdisciplinary research. Experience with technology transfer from university to industry is requested. 

A demonstrated competence for teaching biotechnology and biological engineering, supervision of students and post docs, project management and the ability to attract independent funding are qualifications that will be emphasized in the evaluation of the candidate.  

The candidates are required to teach relevant courses in the Engineering educational program including:

  • Reactor technology
  • Fermentation technology
  • Cell biology
  • Protein, lipid and carbohydrate chemistry and biotechnology 

In addition, the candidate is encouraged to establish new, specialized courses within his or her field at the BSc and/or MSc level.  

The Engineering Department, www.eng.au.dk, within the faculty of science and technology (ST) Denmark promotes and develops Engineering research and education at Aarhus University. The Department undertakes engineering research and education within classical engineering disciplines (Mechanical, IT, civil and architectural, Chemical and biotechnology) in close collaboration with other departments at ST and the School of Engineering at ST. Department of Engineering offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment with many national and international collaborators in science and industry.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
