Three Head of Divisions for DTU Wind Energy

Do you have solid management and leadership skills as well as a strong scientific background within wind energy? Do you want to contribute to a central part of an internationally leading department of a highly reputed technical university? Are you visionary and with the capabilities to ensure a good start for one of our three new divisions?

DTU Wind Energy is a department at the Technical University of Denmark located in the greater Copenhagen area. The overall mission is to develop and create value using the natural and technical sciences and focusing on wind energy for the benefit of society. The department is an internationally leading center in wind energy and cooperates with industry and institutions worldwide. This includes research and education in siting and integration, wind turbine technology, offshore wind and materials and structures for wind energy. We believe that cooperation between scientist and scientific disciplines and a balanced portfolio of research and innovation, education and research-based advice and services is the best way to create value for society.

The Job
You will be head of one of our three new divisions and member of the Department management group. The new divisions are: Materials, Components and Structures, Wind Energy Systems and Wind Turbine Design. The divisions will have 60-90 employees with a number of scientific- or technical managers referring to you. The new organization will be finally designed and implemented in cooperation with the new Heads of Division as soon as they are hired.

The divisions will be responsible for strengthening and further development of the research areas within the division, including the overall strategy and the operations, but also creating suitable business models for the development of the areas.

Materials, Components and Structures
Materials, Components and Structures will deal with research areas related to wind energy component and structural design, including the relevant materials. Research aims at closing the gaps in the design-manufacture-test-monitoring loop in order to develop more efficient materials and structures. By linking the numerical methods and testing from microscale, over coupons and sub-scale components to full scale the research focus on increased reliability of structures. As part of that, the fatigue performance of materials and structures, and lifetime predictability of individual components is in focus. A specific target is to ensure sustainability of wind turbine materials and structures based on life cycle analysis.

Wind Turbine Design
Wind Turbine Design will deal with research topics covering the entire range from aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loading through dynamics and aeroelasticity to turbine control and turbine system design. Validation and tests at various level of details, including development of measurement systems is part of the scope of the division

Wind Energy Systems
Wind Energy Systems will deal with research areas covering the overall system design of wind energy systems, including the external conditions, wind power plant and hybrid system control and performance and the electrical system. Focus is on the atmospheric modelling from climate to energy production, the prediction of site-specific performance and wind farm and hybrid system control and optimization. Furthermore, integration of wind power in the power system and planning issues are addressed.
