Technical process engineer for operation and development in the new Center for Biorefining Technologies at Department of Engineering 990111

Department of Engineering, Aarhus University has established a Center for Biorefining Technologies (CBT) and is currently expanding the team of researchers and technical staff. The CBT is an integrated multipurpose technology-scale-up platform for research and development within biomass processing and biorefining.

We seek a technical process engineer to contribute to construction and development of biorefinery pilot and demonstration plants, as well as executing and documenting operation and experimental tests. The technical engineer is a permanent position and the workplace is at Aarhus University in Foulum.

The position is available as soon as possible.

AU engineering has a strategic focus on biorefining technologies and within CBT established a unique and comprehensive demo-scale platform for bio-refining technologies. CBT includes pre-treatment technologies, protein extraction and separation, hydrothermal conversion, fermentation, biogas conversion, and biogas upgrading. The close collaboration with both basic science and agricultural research departments at AU together with our extensive national and international collaboration further strengthens this effort.  AU is a key node in a large national biorefining programme, www.Biovalue.dk.

The Engineering Department, www.eng.au.dk, within the faculty of science and technology (ST) Denmark promotes and develops Engineering research and education at Aarhus University. Department of Engineering is a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment with many national and international collaborators in science and industry.

The chosen candidate will play an active role in developing applied research within the biorefinery platform at Aarhus University. The candidate will be a part of a dedicated team, bringing technology from laboratory- to pilot- and demonstration scale. The main tasks for the technical process engineer will be to build, develop and operate the pilot plant facilities, and secondly contribute to project management tasks of experimental planning, documentation and communication to researchers and industry.
One specific focus area of the technical process engineer will be on the process of converting fresh green biomass into feed- and food protein, biochemicals, and bioenergy – also known as green biorefining. We are in CBT establishing a new demonstration plant with a capacity of 10-20 ton fresh biomass per hour. As technical process engineer, it would be your task to coordinate operation and development of this facility in tight collaboration with researchers and technical personnel. Project info: GrønBioraf.

The ideal candidate has a degree within Chemical Engineering or like and practical experience in development and use of process equipment in pilot or production scale.

Qualification requirements:

  • B.sc. or M.sc. in chemical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with processing equipment in pilot, demonstration or commercial scale.
  • Structured and systematic approach to development and experiments.
  • Some command of Danish is preferred in order to communicate with external contractors etc.
