Wood Thilsted is a consulting engineering company specialised in geotechnical and structural engineering within the offshore renewable energy industry. We are operating globally with projects located in Asia, North America and Northern Europe. We currently employ a staff of 100, working from offices in Denmark, UK, Taiwan, Japan and US with a continued growth foreseen in the near future.

Due to the success and growth of the company, we are searching for an ambitious Team Lead to lead Wood Thilsted’s expanding Transport & Installation team.

We have a number of large detailed design projects in offshore wind, as well as a continuous stream of concept and FEED studies, plus design work on several innovative concepts (outside of the currently accepted foundation concepts for offshore wind) including floating structures. We continue to strengthen the way we execute and manage these diverse projects, implementing state of the art methods and automating what we can, and we are seeking talented people to join the team.

The primary work location will be one of or offices in Århus, Vejle, Copenhagen, London or Bristol. However, given our teams, clients and projects are spread internationally across Northern Europe, North America and East Asia, you may expect some travelling in relation to your work, both nationally and internationally. In addition, there may be opportunities during your employment for long-term or short-term postings abroad.

Areas of responsibility: As a Team Lead for the Transport & Installation team, your main responsibilities will be to manage the team and the deliverables, you will liaise with our clients and identify when to lead the client and when to be led on technical topics. You will understand the practicalities of the physical processes and from a position of knowledge, guide the analyses of lifting or transportation. You will understand how to model structures subject to loading and support conditions, considering onshore and offshore operations, onboard a variety of vessels and subject to various handling and installation devices. These analyses are typically a part of our detailed design projects.

In your role, you will: Set the objectives and direction for the team. Plan the work ahead and make sure that the forecast demand can be met. You will coordinate, rationalise and contribute to the automation of design processes within the team, always with the aim of making the work more efficient next time around. You will be part of the tendering and scoping process for new work, where you will be respondible for all T&I scope. As team lead you are responsible for your team members with everything that’s required from a line manager, such as supporting your team members in their individual development and growth, training and maintaining the right people with the right competences. As the team continues to grow, you will be a part of the recruitment process for bringing in new team members. You are responsible for the T&I deliverables and therefore be able to perform quality checks and make sure the work lives up to WT’s standard.

Your background: You hold several years of experience within offshore installation. You have potentially worked as an offshore Installation Manager or similar. You should preferably hold a degree in structural or mechanical engineering, or naval architecture. You have experience, flair and an interest in managing a team and building new capabilities within the team.

It is essential that you:

  • Are a people manager who can apply the right balance between leadership and management
  • Have the right experience and background from the offshore installation industry
  • Have a good understanding of how installation contractors operate
  • Are able to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, consultants and contractors through a variety of media, including both web-based telecommunication and face-to-face meetings;
  • Are a team player;
  • Are pro-active in your efforts to engage with others;
  • Demonstrate a strong drive to fulfil your assignments, and a willingness to take the initiative when faced with opportunities to exceed expectations;
  • Possess excellent numeracy, literacy, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Are fluent in the use of standard office software such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.;

Furthermore, it is advantageous if you have experience of the following:

  • Sound and proven, relevant experience as a Installation manager/T&I engineer in the offshore industry;
