Student Assistant, Python Programming
Are you an ambitious student with an interest in SW development and a wish to hone your skills on real-world challenges? Are you enrolled in a technical program at university level – e.g., in the fields electrical engineering, computer science, mathematical modelling, physics or similar?
The Systems Engineering team at WSA Lynge is looking for a skilled student assistant that can take responsibility and work independently while learning from seasoned SW developers.
WSA R&D is increasingly using Python for various types of data processing, automation tasks, code generation, configuration of software systems and to interface between our many hardware and software components. Your task will be to assist R&D engineers in the Systems Engineering team with various Python contributions such as:
- Extending software components with new functionality
- Polishing and refactoring existing python components - in particular improving GUIs
- Rewriting and updating older software components
- Writing tests
- Creating pipelines to automate tasks on Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
The most important skill is that you are well versed in standard Python and the various container types and comprehensions. Preferably, you also have some familiarity with Qt (such as PySide6), Python packaging, Pytest, version control systems. Knowledge of Matlab is an additional plus.
We expect you to have – and to be willing to further develop – good software development habits: clean maintainable code, sensible object-oriented design patterns, clear and extensive commenting and documentation of the code.
The working hours are negotiable, but we are looking for something like 10-15 hours/week with the option to work up to full time in your vacation. Hybrid work is possible. Much can be done from home and via Teams meetings. However, you will need to be physically present for at least a quarter of the working hours.
