Software Engineer for Assistant/Associate Professorship at Aarhus University School of Engineering

Then you might be our new assistant/associate professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Aarhus University School of Engineering.
Aarhus University School of Engineering (ASE) is looking for a full-time assistant or associate professor in software engineering for our programme in Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
At ICT, we focus on how the technological development and the ubiquity of software can be used as catalysts for new and better solutions within a wide range of domains and applications. We work in the cross field between mobile and distributed systems, web, Internet of Things, big data, machine learning and new interaction paradigms such as VR and AR. We are also very passionate about the software engineering process as a whole, as well as how to translate knowledge and good craftsmanship into robust software solutions.

You will be part of a strong team of experienced educators, researchers and developers in the Electronics and ICT programmes, as well as the other staff at the school.
You are expected to work with teaching and development within several subjects in the programme and to supervise student projects. Depending on your qualifications, teaching in other BEng/BSc/MSc engineering programmes is also an option.
You will have the opportunity to participate in and/or run innovative and interdisciplinary research and development projects with researchers or industry partners. At ASE, interdisciplinary work and applied research are core activities meant to provide new knowledge and inventions for research and society, as well as to develop our own technical and methodical competences.
Your professional competences
You have a Master’s degree in a relevant field, e.g. engineering or computer science, and potentially a PhD. Ideally you also have some years of relevant experience in the industry.
You have worked professionally with some of the following areas and technologies:
- Development methods and tests: Agile, SCRUM, TDD
- Mobile platforms: Android, iOS, cross-platform (React Native/Flutter)
- Web: Angular, React, Vue
- Desktop applications: Windows, Linux, MacOS
- Backend and Cloud: Google Cloud/Firebase, MS Azure or AWS.
In addition to the above, it is considered a plus if you have experience with one or more of the following: IoT/embedded development, machine learning, DevOps, augmented and/or virtual reality.
Documented qualifications in teaching and student supervision are considered a big advantage. However, the most important thing is a sincere interest in software and a wish to engage with the students about engineering problems. As part of the position, you will go through a course with other new assistant/associate professors with special focus on developing skills and theories for higher-level education.
Proficiency in Danish is desirable, but not a requirement. However, you should be committed to learning the language over time.

The application process
An academic assessment committee with an external majority will assess the applicants’ professional qualifications. The academic committee will nominate qualified applicants for employment.
An appointment committee consisting of the director and the head of development will process the nominations and invite selected candidates to an in-depth interview.
The position is expected to be filled on 01.11.2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
