Looking for a challenge in tokamak plasma physics? A position as a senior researcher is available in the Department of Physics in the Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy (PPFE) group of Prof. Volker Naulin

We work for the realisation of fusion energy as a green and viable energy source and investigate in this context fundamental processes in plasmas. We seek an active, enterprising person with high ambition in the area of core plasma physics and modelling.

Responsibilities and tasks
You will take part in the research of PPFE, encompassing activities in plasma turbulence and in dynamics and diagnostics of thermal and non-thermal particles in magnetically confined plasmas. You will be responsible for:

  • Research into the dynamics and diagnostics of core ions/electrons in fusion plasmas, including transport modelling and managing of experimental programs
  • Taking on a leading role in our experimental activities, such as exploiting the collective Thomson (CTS) scattering diagnostic at the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak
  • Advanced analysis and modelling of data from core plasma diagnostics such as CTS  and of microwave propagation in existing and future fusion devices
  • Managing and developing the research/teaching program for the DTU Fusor experiment and contributing to the scientific exploitation of other local experiments
  • Contribution towards developing the Section’s research activities to exploit the interface with fields such as atmospheric physics or astrophysics.
  • Participation and development of the Section’s teaching activities and supervision of students from bachelor to PhD level.

Some travel activity can also be expected.

Qualifications
Candidates must:

  • hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc.
  • document didactic/pedagogic training

We expect that you:

  • have significant documented experience within fusion plasma physics and plasma diagnostics, including the design and analysis of fusion experiments
  • have experience with leading international research projects and attracting external funding
  • Have experience with teaching and student supervision
  • are ready to develop an activity to a small group level
  • are excited to teach and to learn from other group members
  • are able to work in teams and communicate your insights and results effectively both orally and in writing
  • work with an outstanding drive and enthusiasm.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • Research impact and experience, funding track record, and research vision
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Societal impact
  • Documented innovation activities, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • International impact and experience
  • Leadership potential and collaboration
  • Communication skills
