The National Veterinary Institute, Centre for Diagnostics works on development of state-of-the art high-throughput diagnostic tests for implementation in routine diagnostics and surveillance programmes. We do research aiming at increasing health in domestic animals including zoonotic pathogens.
 
We are seeking a talented, experienced, innovative and highly motivated senior researcher in parasitology. The perfect candidate is an experienced scientist with a strong background in wildlife and veterinary parasitology. The research area will focus on the investigation of known and new emerging parasitic pathogens in domestic animals and wild life including zoonotic agents and resistance development, and to study alternative ways to control and reduce the parasitic burden. Development of new state-of-the art parasitic diagnostic tests will be done in close collaboration with the diagnostic development team.
 
Responsibilities and tasks
In your daily work, you will

  • be responsible for the investigation of known and new emerging parasitic pathogens in domestic animals and wild life including zoonotic agents.
  • be responsible for studies to control and reduce the parasitic burden in domestic animals.
  • be responsible for research related to anti-parasitic resistance among important parasites in domestic animals
  • collaborate on the development of new state-of-the art parasitic diagnostic tests.
  • take part in supporting the routine diagnostic work, particular regarding advice and information to clinical professionals.
  • train students and veterinarians in diagnosing parasitic diseases in animals

Collaboration with other DTU institutes will be a natural part of the work. This will include collaboration on zoonotic parasites with impact on food safety and environment, especially water. The research will be focused on development of detection methods and ways to reduce the transmission of zoonotic parasites along the food chain and the environment.
 
Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc.
  • document didactic/pedagogic training

Our preferred candidate has the following personal and professional qualifications:

  • You hold a PhD in parasitology
  • You are experience in establishing in vitro assays for detection of parasites (cellular, molecular or immuno- assays)
  • You have a broad knowledge of parasitic diseases in production animals and wild life
  • You have experience in directing own scientific research and leading projects
  • You have experience in parasitic routine diagnostics and related advice to clinical professionals
  • You are able to prioritize work and work efficiently with a minimum of supervision
  • You are fluent in Danish and English oral and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • You have the following computer skills: Microsoft (word, excel, power point, outlook).
  • You are experience in teaching and supervision of bachelor and master students
  • You have experience with epidemiology of parasitic diseases.

We prefer a candidate that also have
•    experience in quality assurance and accreditation of biological tests, e.g. ISO17025
•    experience in set up of ring trials

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
