DTU Civil and Mechanical Engineering is seeking researcher/senior researcher in the Section for Energy and Services with focus on solar energy systems and thermal storage. Research in the section is conducted on the energy efficiency of buildings, building services and solar energy systems for buildings. Buildings must be energy efficient, durable, and have a good indoor climate to meet the users’ demand for functionality and economy and society’s demand for energy conservation and sustainability. A holistic approach to the building envelope and services is the basis for creating buildings with a good indoor climate and low energy consumption.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be engaged in research in the field of solar energy systems and thermal energy storage. The research focuses on theoretical and experimental investigations on solar energy systems including PVT panels, PVT systems, different solar collector types and different heat storage types for solar heating systems. The research also includes heat storage in combination with other heat producing utilities in large and small scale e.g., in solar energy systems combined with district heating and heat pumps.

The research consists of parallel theoretical and experimental activities, for instance implemented in numerical modelling, simulation, software development, detailed laboratory investigations of climate, systems and components, full-scale experiments and measurement programs.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated the ability to perform high-quality scientific research independently. You should have a good track record of publishing research results in reputed scientific journals and participating in international conferences. You should have ambition to secure research grants to support your own research activities, and successful record of funding application will be highly valued. You are expected to build close collaboration with both colleagues from DTU and other research institutes.

We are looking for candidates that have experience within several of the areas below:

  • Solar radiation measurements
  • Different solar collector types (flat plate collectors, evacuated tubular solar collectors and concentrating solar collectors)
  • Solar collector efficiency and test methods on collector efficiency
  • Solar energy systems utilizing solar thermal collectors and PVT collectors
  • Design and development of thermal storages including storages utilizing phase change materials
  • Mathematical modelling of building energy systems
  • Mathematical modelling of solar energy systems
  • Testing of components for solar energy systems
  • Testing of solar energy systems in laboratories and full-scale demonstrations
  • Development and management of scientific research projects.
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks

You must contribute to teaching at the Department. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). If you are applying for the senior researcher position, you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc. To be appointed as a senior researcher, you must have completed a didactic/pedagogic education. If you do not have the necessary education, then it is possible to complete this requirement within a period of two years of appointment.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
