Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy) is looking for a talented senior researcher in Mesoscopic Energy Materials and Devices. DTU Energy have a major focus on the green transition, focusing on the development of materials, components, devices, and systems for new and improved sustainable energy technologies for energy conversion and storage. Our research cover electrolysis, P2X, fuel cells, batteries, thermal energy storage, energy harvesting, and more.

In this position, as senior researcher, you will become part of the faculty. Your prime scientific area will be on development of new and improved functional materials for energy purposes, specifically with focus on state-of-the-art mesoscopic energy materials and devices.

Responsibilities and tasks
This position is aimed at the development of mesoscopic materials and devices, based on thin film and heterostructures, typically prepared by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD), sputtering, or other thin film techniques. Basic thin film device patterning, materials characterization (e.g., structural, electrical and magnetic) and devices characterization must be methods with which you should master. You should be able form a collaborative relationship with colleagues, within the department, across DTU and outside DTU.

An important task will be to conduct research at the highest possible level by attracting external funding from public and private sources. You must disseminate the research findings, both for scientific peers as well as for students and the public domain. You will be teaching students at all levels (BSc, MSc and PhD), and be an inspiration and a role model for our young scientists. Your contributions to our research-based education and innovation shall assist DTU in educating the engineers at the highest level.

Qualifications
You should have a PhD and a strong background in applied physics/materials science or closely related subject. We expect you to have demonstrated top-level and original scientific research related to energy materials and devices. You are expected to have experience in the following areas:

  • Materials and devices for energy conversion and storage
  • Thin film growth by pulsed laser deposition, sputtering and/or other thin film techniques
  • Design and fabrication (e.g. lithography) of thin film devices
  • Master advanced thin film structural characterization methods
  • Experience with electrical and magnetic thin films characterization
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Able to work both independently and in a team
  • Proven record in attracting funding for research and development form external sources
  • Collaborative international experience
  • Supervision of undergraduate, graduate and PhD students
  • Teaching experience (you must be willing and able to teach in Danish within the next 3 years)

To be appointed as a senior researcher, you must have completed a didactic/pedagogic education. If you do not have the necessary education, then it is possible to complete this requirement within a period of two years of appointment. You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.
