The Section for Manufacturing Engineering at DTU, Department of Mechanical Engineering performs theoretical, numerical, and experimental research in the field of manufacturing engineering. It covers a wide range of manufacturing processes and modelling approaches, metrology at all scales, micro/nano manufacturing, and additive manufacturing. The research is based on a multidisciplinary use of process technology, materials science, solid and fluid mechanics as well as thermodynamics and heat transfer in the analysis, modelling, and development of manufacturing processes.

We are seeking for an ambitious senior researcher in sustainable and intelligent functional materials integrated with additive manufacturing to add greater value to traditional structural materials and manufacturing process.

Responsibilities and tasks
The senior researcher will be responsible for building up cutting-edge research in the area of manufacturing and development of smart materials. Focus will be within energy, 3D construction materials as well as bio applications. Tasks will involve supervising a research group with master/PhD students and young researchers, and build strong collaboration across DTU departments as well as with other international partners in both academic institutions and industry. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to develop externally funded research projects, and lead own research proposals and projects.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc.

Applicants must possess and document strong qualifications in research demonstrated through publications and citations in international scientific journals, and through successful collaborations and projects. The candidate must have a background as engineer.

The applicant is expected to have strong competences within a number of the following topics:

  • Construction materials
  • Nano-materials (carbon based nanomaterials)
  • 3D printing
  • Phase change materials for energy storage
  • Inorganic chemistry
  • Polymer synthesis
  • Ceramic synthesis and processing
  • Soft materials

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • Research impact and experience, funding track record, and research vision
  • Societal impact
  • Documented innovation activities, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • International impact and experience
  • Leadership potential and collaboration
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The position is permanent.
