If you are seeking to establish your career as a scientist within intestinal microbiology, and if you are looking for an opportunity to join an internationally recognized research environment, we have a great opening for you. At DTU Food, we seek a senior research scientist with specialization in intestinal microbiology in relation to diet and health.

You will be part of the research group for Gut, Microbes and Health. We offer an ambitious, dynamic and sociable research environment with lots of exiting challenges and opportunities.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will work together with researchers having competencies within microbiology, microbial physiology, sequence-based analysis of microbial communities, microbial metabolism of dietary compounds, and the complex interaction between diet, the gut microbiota, microbial metabolites, and human health. We wish to maintain and develop our research within the role of the microbiota for the host’s response to beneficial as well as adverse components of the diet, and we expect you to be a driver of this area.

You will, together with the other researchers of the group, take a major part in the planning of future research projects and writing of grant applications. The work will involve international and national collaboration with other scientists. Also, you will be involved in risk assessment and advice-giving to governmental bodies, which preferably should be carried out in Danish or another Scandinavian language.

We expect you to have a solid, documented background within intestinal microbiology, and experience within sequence-based analysis of microbial communities and their activities. You must enjoy a changing working environment, with frequent new projects, new tasks, new students and new colleagues. If you can communicate in Danish or a similar language, it will be a great advantage.

Specific tasks include:

  • Contribution to ongoing as well as new projects in our research group in the form of planning, lab work, data analysis and dissemination.
  • Supervision and close interaction with postdocs, PhD students as well as Master and Bachelor students affiliated to the group.
  • Responsibility for the advice-giving activities of DTU Food to the Danish EPA within the area of microbial plant protection products, typically based on Bacillus thuringiensis, and participation in other advisory tasks, e.g. related to probiotic products.
  • As part of the research group for Gut, Microbes and Health to contribute to the overall activities and development of this group

You must contribute to teaching at the Department. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc. To be appointed as a senior researcher, you must have completed a didactic/pedagogic education. If you do not have the necessary education, then it is possible to complete this requirement within a period of two years of appointment.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Interest in societal impact including advice giving for governmental agencies
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

Starting date is according to mutual agreement. The position is a full-time position.
