As our new Senior Manager in Research & Development Two-stroke you will join MAN ES on an exciting journey. We are the global market leader of green fuel powered marine engine propulsion? systems. We are looking for a Senior Manager who is self-driven, but still a team player and who thrives in a challenging role to lead the Automation & Control Two Stroke function.

As Head of Automation & Control you will be a vital part of R&D. The department is responsible of delivering the software, which controls the world largest marine engines going greener. The department consist of 3 sub departments who have their own working area. The department holds +40 highly motivated engineers, divided into smaller groups, typically working in SCRUM team of 4-8 persons, which main focus is the development of the engine control system in terms of reliability, maintenance, usability and engine performance. 

You will be responsible for the daily management, securing efficient execution of multiple projects and tasks as well as coordination with the other teams across the two-stroke business and with external partners. You will be part of the R&D senior management team and be able to directly influence our development roadmaps.

The job
As head of Automation & Control you will be part of the R&D top management team where all major new development areas are decided together with sales and engineering departments.

The department have a big responsibility of designing new controls for developing, implementing and testing control strategies and automation solutions for the electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems on a marine engine. Systems that controls engine speed, hydraulic pressure, actuation of fuel injection, fuel supply systems, emission reduction control systems and much more.

As a Senior Manager you support and develop the department managers, and motivate people, in order to get the best out of your teams and focus on maintaining and developing a lean and effective workforce with strong technical competencies in the relevant fields. Maintaining a strong external network of contacts with Licensees, Owners, Suppliers and Operators is another important part of the role.

Qualifications
As our new colleague, you have strong leadership and interpersonal skills and a natural flair for communication with candor and respect. You have great organizational skills and an ability to apply structure to a busy working day for yourself and your teams. An ability to know when to take the helicopter view, and when to dive down into the details and last but not least stamina to drive changes.  

The ideal candidate has a relevant Master’s degree with 10+ years’ experience in managing a team of highly skilled specialists.  Further the candidate need to have experience with Software & Function development, System architectures, High advanced analytics as well as safety and condition based maintains knowledge, to be able to handle the challenging role to lead the Automation & Control Two Stroke function.
