Do you want to pioneer science and improve food and health for more than 1 billion people every day?

At Chr. Hansen, we work to improve food and health and our natural ingredients are consumed by more than 1 billion people every day.

Our success is built on more than 140 years of innovation and a commitment to ensure the wider adoption of natural ingredients. This allows us to expand innovations into new areas, and to  continue working towards a better world. As a global market leader in bioscience, we have the opportunity to address important global challenges such as food waste, healthy living and sustainable agriculture - and we need the brightest and most passionate people on board to succeed. Want to join us?

A career with Chr. Hansen
Joining Chr. Hansen is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference while taking part in pioneering science. Our founder, Christian D. A. Hansen, was a true entrepreneur and that mentality is still very present and valued today as we look for new talent to strengthen our team. We value people who can come up with new ideas and who want to form their own work practice and methods.

We believe that engagement matters, and therefore we strive to make an optimal environment for development by promoting a collaborative culture with the passion to make a difference.

About the position / Who are we looking for
The department of Computational Systems Biology at Chr. Hansen is seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist with a solid background in Bioinformatics to support our expanding activities in next-generation sequencing (NGS) data processing and analysis. The Computational Systems Biology department is responsible for whole-genome sequencing of Chr. Hansen’s strain collection and strives for transforming NGS data into valuable assets to the company through advanced bioinformatics analyses and mathematical modeling. The department is part of the Bacterial Physiology unit, which applies an integrated systems biology approach for generating comprehensive knowledge on Chr. Hansen strains and employs this knowledge to facilitate the continuous development of new leads for our cultures.

Your Tasks:
You will play a key role in the development, maintenance and continuous optimization of our computational pipelines for the processing and standard analysis of NGS data, primarily whole-genome (re)sequencing and RNA-seq data. Identifying and implementing robust solutions for NGS data management and sharing, in collaboration with IT specialists, will also be among the key activities in your role.

In addition, you are expected to

  • Perform various phylogenomic and comparative genomic analyses
  • Streamline the application of NGS technologies and bioinformatics analyses in different cross-functional projects in key focus areas
  • Work in close collaboration with microbiologists on both experimental planning and data interpretation
  • Participate in the preparation of internal reports and scholarly articles for publications

Your Personal Profile:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Bioengineering or equivalent
  • Documented experience in building automated workflows for analyzing large-scale genomics and transcriptomics datasets
  • Advanced scripting skills in Python (or equivalent languages) and Unix Shell
  • Previous experience in NGS data management
  • PrevExperience with MySQL, PostgreSQL (or similar) and JS, AngularJS (or similar) is advantageous
  • Working knowledge of biostatistics
  • Basic understanding of bacterial physiology and metabolism
  • Documented scientific excellence in the form of high quality publications
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of scientists in multidisciplinary projects
  • Ambitious, self-motivated and goal oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

About the department
The successful candidate will get the opportunity to join a rapidly evolving team of competent bioinformatics and systems biology scientists with great development potential. Besides Computational Systems Biology, the Bacterial Physiology Unit contains two other departments, Strain Development and Experimental Systems Biology, with a total of 23 employees. As part of the Discovery function in our R&D organization, the Bacterial Physiology Unit aims at bridging the gap between academic research and new product development through in-depth understanding of bacterial physiology and elucidation of molecular mechanisms underlying desirable industrial traits.

We offer:
We offer a permanent position and a stimulating, international workplace within a professional organization focused on linking solid scientific research to business opportunities.
