Research Scientist for Molecular Assay development
The R&D department Biosafety & Molecular Assays is looking for an innovative, skilled and enthusiastic scientist to develop new molecular assays.

In Biosafety and Molecular Assays, we are developing new methods and assays for understanding strains and cultures through microbiology (using both genotypic and phenotypic testing) within new product development as well as customer cases/complaints. Furthermore, we ensure that the right strains are used in new product development and production.

You will join a motivated and collaborative team of scientists and technicians. Our department needs reinforcement to be sure we can deliver new assays to our partners in R&D, Production and Customers. You will be based in Hoersholm, 30 minutes north of Copenhagen.

Development of new molecular assays using state of the art molecular platforms
As our new Research Scientist the one of your first tasks will be to scale-up and validate the new method and do a technology transfer and hand over the method to the end users. Besides new technology development you will optimize existing assays as part of an implemented workflow to provide the answers to our partners on their microbiological questions.

As such your primary responsibilities are to

  • Deliver assays on existing platforms (qPCR, digital PCR)
  • Scout for new Technologies
  • Perform proof of concept on new equipment
  • Scale methods through automation
  • Work together with project teams
  • Customer contact
  • Technology transfer

The profile
The ideal candidate holds a MSc or PhD degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Food Science or related scientific field. Your educational background is combined with a natural interest and passion for Food microbiology.

You have a passion for molecular microbiology and a strong drive to develop new methods through technology scouting and experience of concept trialing in the lab using high-end equipment.

  • Has experience with qPCR, digital PCR, (amplicon)Sequencing, or metagenomics
  • Has a hands-on mentality to develop and validate new methods
  • Preferably has experience in scalability and robotics to increase throughput of our methods
  • Preferably has experience with data visualization. It is considered an advantage if you have experience with programming languages such as R or Python
  • Experience with database maintenance is preferred (Access/SQL)

On a more personal level we are looking for a person that is an outgoing, communicative team-player who likes to actively contribute to group discussions and has the ability to work independently. You dare to challenge the status quo when you see room for improvement and you use your creativity to think of new ways to solve problems. You can work on several tasks in parallel without losing the overview.

English is the corporate language of Chr. Hansen, so you need to be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.
