Are you interested in protein biophysics and biotechnology and do you want to contribute to the development of the project ‘ UNISURF: How do surfactants denature proteins? Towards a universal model with broad applications in analytical sciences’? Then the Department of Chemistry and the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) invites you to apply for a 2+ years PostDoc position.

Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a 2 years position from October 1st, 2022 or as soon possible.

Job description

  • You will develop capillary electrophoretic techniques and apply them to proteins.
  • You will be working primarily with capillary electrophoreses, small-angle X-ray scattering and spectroscopic and calorimetric techniques for characterizing protein-surfactant complexes.
  • The position will focus on aspects of interaction of anionic surfactants with ultra-stable proteins.
  • You will also be involved in expressing and purifying proteins.

Your profile
This section may include topics such as:

Applicants should hold a PhD in biophysics, nanoscience, molecular biology, biotechnology or similar.

The following qualifications are also important:

  • Experience in small-angle scattering
  • Experience in protein expression, purification, and biophysical characterization techniques
  • Experience in publications
  • Good collaboration and management skills
  • Good communication skills, also in English

Who we are
The project is a collaboration between the Soft Matter Group and the Protein Biophysics group, both physically located in the iNANO building.
The research of the Soft Matter group is focused on biophysical and soft matter research and makes extensive use of scattering methods for structural investigations. https://inano.au.dk/about/research-groups/physical-chemistry-of-soft-con...
The Protein Biophysics group (www.proteins.dk) studies protein stability, dynamics and conformational changes using spectroscopy, kinetics and calorimetry.
The two groups have been involved in close collaboration for many years using complementary techniques.

What we offer
The department offers:

  • excellent research infrastructure
  • an exciting interdisciplinary environment with many national, and international collaborators
  • a research climate encouraging lively, open and critical discussion within and across different fields of research
  • a work environment with close working relationships, networking and social activities
  • a workplace characterised by professionalism, equality and a healthy work-life balance.

Place of work and area of employment
The place of work is Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), Gustav Wieds Vej 14, 8000 Århus C, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.

Deadline
Applications must be received no later than August 1st 2022.

Previously submitted applications will be taken into consideration unless they are withdrawn.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Letter of reference
If you want a referee to upload a letter of reference on your behalf, please state the referee’s contact information when you submit your application. We strongly recommend that you make an agreement with the person in question before you enter the referee’s contact information, and that you ensure that the referee has enough time to write the letter of reference before the application deadline. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure that letters of reference received after the application deadline will be taken into consideration.
