Are you interested in working in a team which is contributing in getting the world’s largest combustion engines to perform at their best? Then please continue reading – we might have just the job for you…

What am I going to do?
As R&D Engineer in the group “Engine Control”, you will be a part of the department “Automation & Control”. The department is responsible of delivering the software, which controls the largest 2-stroke engines of the world. The team holds around 40 highly motivated engineers, divided into smaller groups, you will become a part of a SCRUM team of 4-8 persons, which main focus is focus is the development of existing and new technologies for the engine control system in terms of reliability, maintenance, usability and engine performance. You will take part in developing, implementing and testing control strategies and automation solutions for the electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems on a 2-stroke engine. Systems that controls engine speed, hydraulic pressure, actuation of fuel injection and exhaust valve, fuel supply systems and much more.

On the basis of a good understanding of combustion systems and mechanical systems, we are designing the control strategies for the engines in cooperation with the other development departments. The solutions are implemented in the distributed engine control system via the C++ programming language. The software is installed on the engines using our own MAN-ES hardware platform. We test our software using both PC, our own hardware in the loop test facilities,  our large test engine or at a production engine abroad.

Your primary tasks will be to utilize the potential of different engine systems in order to develop the best possible automation or control system solution, including:

  • system analysis and modelling of dynamic system
  • developing and designing methods to control electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems
  • implementing, programming and testing new functionality in the control system
  • improving, bug finding and maintaining existing functionality in the control system
  • assisting costumers and business partners in connection with bug finding in service
  • specifying control system interfaces to internal and external partners

Our engines are produced on license typically in Japan, China and South Korea and installed in ships ranging from ferries to the world largest container ships and supertankers. You will from time to time have travel activity in connection with tests, which cannot be completed on our test engine or test facilities in Copenhagen. In daily work you will have contact with our colleagues and costumers worldwide, primarily in written support and assistance.

Who am I?
We imagine that our new colleague

  • holds a degree in automation, mechanical or electrical engineering, with a particular interest in mechanics and dynamic systems
  • has experience with and interest in programming – C++ or another object oriented language is an advantage, but not a requirement
  • has 3-5 (or more) years of experience from a similar position or is an exceptional newly grad willing to take on a challenge

Furthermore, you would fit well into the team and our way of working if you are independent and take plenty of initiative, with the ability and joy to follow a project from the start-up phase to the end, including delivery.

How is your new team/area of business?
We are working in SCRUM teams of 4-8 developers, following the agile principles. It is a requirement that our systems and software applications are designed and implemented with great focus on quality, on-time delivery, lifespan and user friendliness.

We are a team with good unity, where the daily life is characterized with an informal atmosphere and a pleasant social work environment. You will work in close cooperation with skilled and motivated colleagues who are passionate about their job and are looking forward to learn from you – and of course also share their knowledge.
