The responsibility of the professor is to advance the research within (a) computer networking and communications, and (b) data analytics with a focus on applications to the Internet of Thing, drone and/or nano satellites. The professor must provide scientific leadership to fundamental research in these areas as well as contributing to technology transfer and creating a strong scientific foundation for industrial collaboration.

The university has made an ambitious strategic investment in a 2025-year recruitment plan to increase its activities significantly within research and education in the engineering sciences with the vision of bringing AU into the global engineering elite. As of 1 January 2021 ECE became a department within the Faculty of Technical Sciences to further reinforce the growth strategy.

Candidates must have a PhD in electrical engineering or a closely related field. In the assessment of candidates, strong emphasis and consideration will be given to:

  • Excellence in research demonstrated by publications in relevant scientific journals and conferences;
  • Research impact, e.g., in terms of citations, as well as technology transfer and commercialization, e.g., patent applications;
  • Experience and successful in attracting funding for research projects with national and international research agencies and industry as well as demonstrated experience in research leadership. In particular, addressing Global and Societal challenges (e.g., Innovation Fund Denmark, Horizon Europe, H2020);
  • Experience and impact from collaboration with relevant industry partners;
  • Research network and established research collaboration with relevant academic and industrial partners;
  • Experiences from interdisciplinary research and cross-cutting activities
  • Experience and quality of teaching and supervision, as well as experience in development of research-based educations;
  • Experience in MSc, PhD and post-doctoral training; and
  • Excellent communication skills.

For the position, it is crucial that candidates hold a deep understanding of real-world systems and applications/problems within Internet of Things, drone technology, nano satellite constellations or similar application fields. It is further a key for success that the candidate can lead the activities in our department in these application/problem domains.

Job description
The candidate is expected to be able to drive the build-up of internationally competitive research activities, to contribute to strengthening current research activities, and expanding industrial collaboration. The professor will act as head of a research group, participate in knowledge exchange with society and industry, raise external funding and participate in supervision of PhD students and post-doctoral training, be responsible for the educational guidance of assistant professors, and grow the research group/team and research lab. Furthermore, the professor will be active contributor to the development of the ECE organization.

The professor is expected to participate in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels in both electrical and computer engineering study programs, and to engage in the continued development of both existing and new courses. Undergraduate courses are primarily taught in Danish, whereas other courses are taught in English. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Electrical and computer engineering are closely related technical science disciplines focusing on research into hardware and software technologies that play a vital role in defining modern society, its digitalisation and human behaviour therein. Our focus is on research and development activities in the fields of communication and networks, control and automation, photonics, signal processing, software and IT systems, robot technology, medical technology, health technology, electrical energy technology, and acoustics and sound technology.

Many of our research and development activities are based on the specific innovation needs or specialist application areas of specific companies. Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
