Production Line Manager (maternity cover until 2020 March)

FOSS is an international family-owned company that provides the industry’s best dedicated analytical solutions, which add value to our customers by improving quality and optimising food and agricultural production.

Do you aspire to further develop LEAN to production and becoming an important part of optimizing the quality, service level and cost within FOSS supply chain? Do you want your talent for people management challenged and broadened? Then you might be our new colleague.

The job
We have improved our service level and business is growing. As Production Line Manager, we expect you to set clear and challenging goals for the employees you will lead. We have structure for both team meetings and personal leadership in daily operations with focus on constantly building the employees´ ability to improve quality, delivery and cost within the team. You will be closely supported and challenged by a planner and a quality technician.

You will refer to the plant manager and have 4 peers within the plant management. In total, the plant counts 125 employees, working in warehouse, with assembly and/or as technicians.

Your department counts 30 employees, who are organized in 7 production teams. They add value in the flow through the plant by working with assembly and test. They are primarily assembly workers, as well as a few technicians. Each team produces a different product at a fairly low volume. The structure is the same but the teams are different. One of the team tests and configurates modules from FOSS´ plant in China into instruments, while another team is making a product for a key account customer. There is seasonality within two of the teams, so capacity in those teams is increased during the season, which is indeed a challenging and interesting opportunity.

You are the driving force in securing alignment both inside the department and towards other functions, and thereby building trust and accountability, leading to great teamwork. You keep a clear goal and constructive dialogue thanks to the daily plan and KPIs in each team.

Primary tasks
You run daily business and improve and develop the flow. The planner sets the pace for the team and you secure the capacity, competencies and commitment to fullfil the plan. In coherence with the planner, as well as with quality technicians and the team, you effectively level the work and create continious flow. Every time improvements are made, you maintain and develop the management system so processes are up to date and in compliance in your area. You control the variable cost, especially productivity and internal scrap.

The strategy is deployed via a structured system with challenges and targets. You make the plan to meet the targets with your peers, and you facilitate and coach the teams in performing in daily business and in making investigations to improve performance continuously.

Management and overview of the situation are secured by daily operation board meetings with purchasers, planners and warehouse manager. There are also weekly quality meetings with focus on both the financial cost, and on opportunities to improve quality (both internally and when it comes to the quality perceived by the customers).

Leadership presence is amongst others secured by production team board meetings, process confirmations made by you on jobs performed by team members, as well as by your personal involment in practical problem solving.

Qualifications
In order to succeed, we expect you to be educated in supply chain management, to have a background as a production-engineer, and to be highly experienced shopfloor manager or similar.

You must speak a Nordic Language and English. Knowledge within ISO 9001 and IECEx is an advantage since the plant is certified.

You have experience with people management, lean is a big part of your experience and your cultural mindset, and last but not least, we expect you to be talented at creating high performing teams.

Personal skills

  • You are good at listening, you want to understand the problems and you take pride in paving the way so your department and the company can deliver the results. You inspire your team and show them the way.
  • You have a high drive; you are curious asking questions and showing respect at the same time. You are eager to deliver results in the right way.
  • You reflect on feedback and continuously try to improve. You follow up on the decisions that are made and take responsibility for the outcomes.

We offer
A challenging job in an international, innovative and highly successful organization. We are market leaders and are very proud of the solutions we provide for the customers, and of the results we deliver. The P&SC function has a clear strategy for a transparent end to end supply chain. And you will define some of the steps to realize the strategy. You can expect to join a great team, with highly motivated and skilled colleagues.

In season, some teams in the department work on an evening-shift (14-22). So you can expect to cover the evening shift 1 day a week, when necessary.
