Postdoc positions in Mixed-Signal CMOS Integrated Circuits for Implantable Brain Interface 1003028
At Aarhus University, Department of Engineering within integrated Circuits and Electronics Lab, we are hiring talented researchers in postdoc positions to work on an exciting project for recording and processing brain signals using a neuromorphic chip as a part of large interdisciplinary project. Within this project, we aim at developing a low-power small footprint multi-channel CMOS analog front-end for brain recording purposes. The designed chip will be tested both in-vitro and in-vivo. Hence, applicants are expected to expand their knowledge to the biomedical aspect of the work too. The postdoc will work closely with different research groups within this project. Therefore, they are expected to have strong communication skills for a fruitful teamwork. 

The grant agreement is expected to be signed by all the partners in the project in 2018 with the possible project start of February 1st 2019. Employment is time limited to two years with the possibility of extension. 

Tasks
You are expected to contribute to: 

  • Gain a thorough understanding of low-power design challenges in CMOS technology.
  • Gain a deep understanding of the analog front-end circuits required to record a low-noise and clean signal from brain ready for processing.
  • Design, simulate and fabricate and measure integrated chips used for brain signal recording in CMOS technology.

Qualifications
You are expected to have the following qualifications:

  • A PhD degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A solid background in Electronics and CMOS Integrated Circuit Design
  • Experienced in CMOS fabrication and measurements
  • Team working skills as this is an interdisciplinary project
  • Good collaboration and communications skills
  • Experience with biomedical instrumentation, recording and analysis of electrophysiological signals is an advantage but not required.
  • Experience with EDA CAD tools for IC design (Virtuoso, HSPICE, etc.)
  • PCB design (e.g. Allegro)

The employee will work with low-power integrated nanoelectronics in ICELAB (http://icelab-au.com/) headed by Associate Prof. Farshad Moradi in collaboration with NeuroTechnology Lab  headed by Associate Professor Preben Kidmose. 

About the Electrical and Computer Engineering Section
Electrical and computer engineering are closely related engineering disciplines that focus on the development of hardware and software for intelligent units and networks. This includes hardware at system and component levels as well as many different types of software for controlling electronic devices and networks. 

The research areas within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Section at Department of Engineering support the development within this area. The outcome greatly influences our daily lives as advanced technologies are incorporated into an increasing number of products, for example in industrial processes, at hospitals and in information infrastructures.

Formalities and salary range Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
