Postdoc position on computer vision and ai applied in camera surveillance

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology a position as Postdoc in computer vision and AI applied in camera surveillance  is open for appointment from February 1st, 2020 or soon hereafter and for a period of 2 years. The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology has as its goal the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Job description
At the Visual Analysis of People (VAP) lab, at Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark, there is an opening for a postdoc to work on computer vision and AI topics related to camera surveillance. The candidate is expected to work on one of the topics mentioned below, but related topics could also be of interest. Furthermore, she/he is expected to co-supervise a group of three PhD students who will also work on the topics mentioned below.

The ideal candidate has a PhD degree with a focus on computer vision, AI or both. Experience with camera surveillance in general or one of the specific topics mentioned below is appreciated. When applying it is paramount that the application is accompanied by a suggested project description. That is, a speculative text where the applicant suggests, which topic(s) to work on and how. Here we expect that the applicant documents a solid insight into relevant state-of-the-art literature.

Potential topics:
Designing a multimodal platform where different ways of utilizing different computer vision-based sensors, like optical, thermal, and depth sensors for security applications are studied and analyzed. Suggested subtopics include synchronization, complementing sensing and transfer learning across sensor modality.

Abnormality detection in a network of multi-modal cameras. Suggested subtopics include tracking, re-id and domain adaptation.

Prediction of behavior based on multimodal data. The focus here will be on body pose analysis combined with context domain knowledge, like the information coming from an access control system, combined with deep learning-based analysis of the body motion.

Deep learning-based super-resolution of facial images captured by optical, thermal, and depth surveillance cameras.

This postdoc position is funded under a collaboration agreement between Milestone Systems A/S and Aalborg University: Milestone Research Programme at AAU. Milestone Systems A/S, part of the Canon Group, is a world-leading provider of video management systems and is headquartered in Denmark.

The Candidate filling up the position will be employed by Aalborg University and sit in the VAP lab in Aalborg, where he/she will interact with 25+ computer vision researchers and at the same time have the opportunity to collaborate with the strong research division of Milestone Systems A/S.
