The SDU Center for Energy Informatics is currently seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for several open PhD positions. These positions are within the following topics: Transfer learning for improving energy performance in industrial processes, Reinforcement learning for sustainable e-mobility, Explainable AI for integrated energy systems, Predictive asset management and maintenance, and Data-driven optimization for energy efficient and cost-effective building retrofits.

The SDU Center for Energy Informatics is a leading research center that focuses on the development of innovative solutions for the green transition of the energy sector. We are dedicated to advancing the understanding and research of energy informatics through the development and application of innovative technologies and methods.

As a PhD student at the SDU Center for Energy Informatics, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects in the field of energy informatics, contribute to the state of the art of the field, and develop your skills as an independent researcher. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with leading researchers and industry partners, and to participate in a vibrant and supportive research community.

The ideal candidate for these PhD positions should have a strong academic background in computer and data science, energy and software engineering, or a related field. We are looking for individuals with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a strong ability to work independently and in a team. Successful candidates should have a passion for energy informatics and a desire to make a significant contribution to the field through their research.

Conditions of employment
Applicants are required to have a master’s degree (equivalent to a Danish master's degree) at the time of enrollment and employment. Employment as a PhD fellow is a 3-year salaried position (start salary amounts to approx. 3.378,- EURO per month incl. supplements).

Employment of a PhD fellow can only happen after the Head of the PhD School has approved the candidate for admission to the PhD school. Employment and enrollment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

A PhD fellow is not allowed to have any kind of sideline employment, while enrolled as PhD fellow at the faculty.

Employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

The successful candidate will be enrolled at SDU in accordance with Faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order), read more here.

The application must be in English and must include the following - the required forms can be found at the above mentioned Faculty website:

  • Completed TEK PhD application form for 5+3 applicants.
  • Statement of research stating your specific interest in one or more of the announced topics. Upload in the field called “Project description”. 
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae, including personal contact information, describing research, publications (if any), along with any other relevant information, e.g. teaching experience, computational skills etc.
  • Verified copies of the official bachelor diploma and master's diploma and transcripts of exams.
  • Completed TEK PhD form for calculation grade point average. Upload in one of the fields called “Publication”. 
  • An official document describing the grading scheme of the awarding universities (if not Danish). Upload in one of the fields called “Publication”. 
  • Two letters of recommendation.
