Universal Robots is the market leader in the collaborative robotic space today and we are just getting started. We are looking for an experienced product management professional who is obsessed with understanding customers and creating value for them. The Value Stream Manager will be dedicated to the Integration and Platform value stream, where we develop and launch hardware and software products that make our collaborative robots easy for customers to integrate to their factory floors, and attractive to partners to create end-of-arm tooling and software extensions.

Integration & Platform is more than a robot control box; it is the brain of our cobots and the primary way our cobots talk with the outside world, including communication with safety sensors and controls.  Our platform serves a wide variety of customers ranging from robotics and system integration experts to do-it-yourself integrators with little automation expertise.  It is vital that our platform enables customers to be successful regardless of their level of expertise.

As a Lead Product Manager, you are the consummate team player, adept at managing relationships, collaborating, and influencing across a variety of organizational functions. You will guide multiple product teams that are charged with building hardware and software that enables easy integration and is scalable from simple stand-alone cobot deployments to complex industrial workcells with state-of-the-art functional safety systems.

You will be a strategist, who enjoys spending time in market, and who will translate the company’s high-level vision and goals into actionable tasks. You will set product strategy, prioritize features, build consensus, and coordinate product schedules with your design and engineering teammates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the holistic view and strategy for our Integration & Platform value stream
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, design, applications, product insights and our business partners
  • Uncover and understand customer needs and translate them into powerful user stories that create smart requirements for our products, applications, and solutions
  • Manage the product strategy and requirements throughout the project and product lifecycle
  • Develop a forward-looking, multi-year roadmap for hardware and software that brings your product vision to life
  • Own and drive all aspects of the complete product lifecycle management including stakeholder engagement/management, product ideation, definition, prioritization, overseeing development and launch, and contributing to ongoing strategic roadmap management
  • Act as primary product communicator and link between key stakeholders and teams, ensuring there is buy in from stakeholders on all major decisions and clear and timely instruction on deliverable execution
  • Provide product ownership and work closely with engineering and program management throughout the product development process; be a constant advocate for the customer, provide continuous guidance for project teams, and lead tradeoff negotiation and prioritization discussions

Who are we looking for?
We expect our future colleague in this role to come with 7+ years of product management experience, ideally in Industrial Automation, Consumer Products or Electronics.  It’s key that you are tech savvy and passionate about building platform products that enable customer satisfaction, and that you have excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties. Furthermore, we are looking for someone who can meet the following requirements:

  • You have 7+ years’ experience building hardware and/or software products.
  • Experience with best practice agile scrum development and lean startup principles.
  • Experience with functional safety and industrial standards is a plus.
  • You are comfortable facilitating planning and decision-making across several teams, including partners, and know how to encourage and empower teams to get things done.
  • You care deeply about the user experience and have extensive knowledge in design principles, UX, and quantitative and qualitative research
  • You have a proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product throughout its lifecycle and driving successful business outcomes
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications across technical and non-technical stakeholders; must be comfortable being a public speaker in front of large, senior groups
  • A degree in engineering, computer science or other technical discipline; MBA is a plus

This position requires up to 25 percent domestic and international travel to current and prospective customers and partners.
