Laboratory technician supporting product development in R&D

A fast growing world population means that the global food production will have to increase significantly to meet the demand. FOSS want to come up with smarter ways to make the best use of agricultural resources, and to help eliminate food waste.

We are looking for laboratory technicians to support product development within our Research and Development department.

If that sounds like something you would like to get out of bed for every Monday morning, then read on.

The job
We are currently expanding our development activities at FOSS Innovation Centre in Hillerød and we need to expand our laboratory capacity, due to an increasing number of innovative development projects. The main purpose of the laboratory group (presently 5 people) - is to support the development of excellent new analytical instruments. The instruments and technical solutions we develop are sold worldwide in food- and agricultural industries as well as in private and public laboratories. Examples range from various technologies, wet chemistry based to spectroscopy with NIR, FTIR and X-ray.

High quality test data from our laboratory is essential in our development process, from the early phases to the final release. This is the objective for our laboratory group.

Together with our HW test engineers, the laboratory group forms the R&D Validation team, and we service all new projects in R&D across all market segments. The team is headed by Jan Sten Andersen.

The work in the chemical laboratory and the other test lab facilities is focused on analysing agricultural products like milk, grain, feed and forage and many others sample types i.e. from raw materials to processed and finished food. It includes all kind of traditional lab work from preparation of samples, reagent preparation and analytical standards to extraction, distillation, and measurements by various techniques, flow cytometry, spectroscopy, microscopy etc.

Primary tasks
As Laboratory Technician your main tasks per project are:

  • building up and maintaining test sample library
  • carrying out sample preparation
  • producing instrument reagents
  • carrying out testing on existing and new Foss instruments, from initial lab models, functional models, prototypes to final production (0-series) instruments
  • maintaining laboratory facilities

As part of the development team, you will typically be allocated to one main project for a 2-3 year period of time, but you will also in parallel take on ad hoc laboratory e.g. supporting your colleagues in the team with other projects.

Qualifications and Personal skills
We imagine you have a laboratory technician personal background, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.

If you previously have worked with basic analytical chemistry methods such as Kjeldahl, Dumas, Soxhlet or spectroscopic methods it will be considered an advantage. Experience from working in a commercial lab with various methods is also a benefit, as well as knowledge from working with FOSS instruments (visit www.fossanalytics.com for further info).

Since FOSS is a global organization, it is a prerequisite that you are fluent in Danish and confident with English.

Our ideal candidate is flexible and systematic in his/her daily work. People say about you that you are good at keeping the big picture (overview), at documenting your work and results, and describe you as a self-starter and a robust person.

Last but not least, you are cooperative and team oriented - as a positive attitude and a portion of humor always make everything go smoother!

We offer
By joining FOSS, you can expect to take on an interesting challenge in a dynamic work environment and international atmosphere, with high focus on innovation and customer experience.

You will work in a flat organization with a high degree of cooperation across all departments.

FOSS is doing well and we have a lot of new and interesting products in our pipeline, which need your attention to become even more successful than expected.
