Increasing amounts of waste at the coast and limited collection options are putting the population and the environment under pressure in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown. Engineers Without Borders (EWB-DK) has therefore started a project that, with the help of a barrier in the water and a waste management facility, will limit the release of waste and collect it for recycling. To solve the task of testing the barrier and support the establishment of a waste sorting facility, EWB-DK offers an internship to a student who has an interest and knowledge in mechanical engineering and waste recycling, and who has the courage to solve the task together with our partners in Sierra Leone.

About the om project
In collaboration with the local partner World Hope International Sierra Leone (WHI-SL) and the local volunteer-based community organization Skills Pool (SP), EWB-DK is carrying out a project in the capital Freetown, Sierra Leone, which focuses on collecting and recycling plastic waste that is discharged into the sea from the city of millions. The purpose of the internship is to assist WHI-SL and SP in the work of testing the waste collecting barrier and to help establish a waste management facility, with an additional focus on how to reuse/recycle especially plastic and make it into a sustainable business. With this internship you will strengthen your technical capacities, as well as gain learning and knowledge about international development work from a technical perspective.
