In the Kenema district of Sierra Leone, many of the villages are affected every year by recurring and progressive floods, because of climate change. Together with our local partners World Hope International Sierra Leone and SEND Sierra Leone, we have selected 50 villages where we are implementing Climate WASH projects to strengthening their capacity to resist climate change. For that work, EWB-DK is looking for an intern who can carry out the following tasks:

  • Support partner team in small scale community project on climate mitigation (mainly infrastructure/water supply).
  • Supported by Danish expert team install new data transmission on water supply systems.
  • Support the construction of a water supply system at community level.
  • Attend stakeholder meetings, workshops etc.
  • Provide inputs to progress reports in line with the requirements of EWB-DK and partners.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications (not a MUST HAVE):

  • Technical education (at least B. Sc) in engineering with a professional interest in the effects of climate and mitigation related to infrastructure including water supply.
  • Previous experience in developing countries is an advantage – but not a MUST.
  • Proactive, curious and embrace new challenges and ability to work independently. Ability to define own additional tasks in field and propose to project management if you see them necessary.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in electrical and electronic systems and basic knowledge within embedded systems such as Arduino is an advantage.
  • Interested in contributing with the gained experience in EWB-DK after the internship.
  • Interest in development cooperation and understanding of working with other cultures.
  • Fluent in English – working language is English.

Some of the work with antennas and solar cell panels will be at water towers of a few meters’ height, so you must not be afraid of heights/ climbing ladders – but we will fit you with a wire.

Framework for the internship
EWB-DK covers costs for travel and insurance and provides per diem to cover board and lodging. The internship will consist of preparation in Denmark and three months in Sierra Leone (3 to 4 months in total) from August 2023 to the end of November 2023.
