The European Spallation Source ERIC, ESS, is hiring motivated and inspired people to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source. We seek ambitious, talented people in a range of fields who are excited about playing a part in the future of science in Europe. The ESS accelerator, target and experiments are based in the university city Lund, Sweden and our Data Management Software Center (DMSC) is placed in Copenhagen, Denmark.

ESS is looking for a Scientific HPC system officer for the Data Systems and Technology group in Copenhagen. 

About the team
The tasks and responsibilities of the team include but are not limited to supporting, designing, deploying and maintenaning the data center that will store the data produced at the facility currently being constructed in Lund (SE). The team allows for plenty of oportunities to grown in and develop the role and you will be working in a variety of tasks and with a large range of stakeholders.  

About the role
As the successful candidate and future Scientific HPC system officer you will:

  • Drive the deployment of new IT hardware and services for scientific computing
  • Develop and maintain script for deploying services
  • Partake in the designing of the infrastructure for scientific computing for a large scale research facility
  • Act on user requests
  • Act and report on hardware and service incidents
  • Act and report on INFOSEC risks and incidents.

About you
We believe that you:

  • A strong background in computer, technical or natural sciences (Master or Ph.D.)
  • Experience in a HPC, big-data, cloud or enterprise IT environment
  • Strong hardware expertise
  • Experience with virtualisation
  • Experience with HPC clusters
  • Experience with storage systems or within high.throughput networks.
  • Experience with design of infrastructure - preferably for scientific computing.
  • Experience with either Kubernetes or other container orchestration technologies.
  • Full professional proficiency in English, written as well as oral.

The role calls for an interest in team working in a cross-cultural environment and good interpersonal skills.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Copenhagen, Denmark. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
