Managing Safety, interoperability and other approval related activities in the implementation of complex signaling technology nationwide in the Danish railway network
In the last ten years, Banedanmark’s Signaling Programme has focused on the digitalization of the railway by implementing the new Train Control Systems ERTMS and CTBC. The implementation is done together with an international supplier base. Railway safety is part of the DNA in Banedanmark and in the Signaling Programme and we are looking for a person to take the position as the Programme safety manager leading the Safety management section.
As head of Safety and Commissioning section you are responsible for securing the necessary safety, interoperability and other related approval processes required for implementing the new signaling system governed by national and European legislation. You will be managing a team of approximate 30 experts and spearhead the delivery of all related activities, including liege with NSA (Trafik-, Bygge- og Boligstyrelsen) and G-ISA (assessor), to assure momentum in the roll-out plan of the Signaling Programme.
You will be a part of the Management Group of Signaling Systems Integration, being six managers managing the 125 employees of the area. Signaling Integration is part of the Signaling Systems Division.
Your work place will be at Banedanmark’s head office in central Copenhagen.
Leadership, development and ensuring deliverables
As Head of Section you are responsible for leading a highly professional team with strong competencies within safety and interoperability management, engineering and various other related disciplines. Furthermore, you will have the overall responsibility for related activities involved in getting Authorization of placing into service (APIS) for the track-side delivery and Authorization of placing into Market (APOM) for the Onboard delivery, in full compliance with Danish Railway Legislation and the European Interoperability Directive.
Your area of responsibility is:
- Motivating and developing the team of highly competent people
- Manage all the activities related to getting the necessary approvals which ensure the implementation of all the milestones of the Signaling Programme
- Strengthen a strategic relationship with the Danish National Safety Authority
- Ensure a productive and constructive working relationship with the assigned Assessor (ISA) and Notified Body (NoBo)
- Assure a productive and constructive working relationship with the safety organizations of the suppliers
- Ensure cross-functional initiatives in Banedanmark to continue optimizing and developing optimal processes
You will be leading a dedicated team with a mix of Banedanmark employees and consultants, where we work in an open and informal structure and tone and where we focus on developing our area of responsibility and deliveries.
Good overview and corporation competencies
You hold a relevant degree in Engineering, Risk & Safety Management or the equivalent. Professional experience and insight into Safety and Interoperability is a must. Management experience from a fast-paced and complex project organization that is politically owned or working closely with politically owned organizations is preferred.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to constructively perform stakeholder management are critical to succeed in the role, as it is built upon collaboration with foreign suppliers, many different internal stakeholders and national as well as international authorities. Therefore, we are looking for an outgoing and approachable person who works with awareness and sensibility towards working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural setting. You will to a large extent lead your team and perform team communication in English.
As a person you have a strong character and is good at delegating responsibility and give valuable feedback to the members of your team. You are good at looking at complex situations and seeing solutions from a holistic perspective, as well as enabling systematic follow-up and ensuring improvements.
You will be employed in relation to the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), as a Senior Consultant with staff responsibility, and the salary will be based on your experience and qualifications.
