Head of SDU Electrical Engineering and Centre for Industrial Electronics

The border region Denmark-Germany is turning into a powerhouse in industrial electronics. Recently, the Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) was established by a strong partnership between industry, academia and regional authorities. CIE is located at the campus of SDU Sønderborg and surrounded by a vibrant industrial environment.  CIE is part of the Section SDU Electrical Engineering (SDU EE), which is part of the Mads Clausen Institute at SDU.

Job description
We are seeking a visionary and charismatic head for CIE and SDU EE. The section is present in both Sønderborg and Odense and currently has approximately 25 members of staff. This number is expected within the next few years to grow to more than 60, including senior (full and associate professors) and junior (assistant professors and Post Docs) academic staff, PhDs and support staff. The financial foundation for this growth as well as for the development of new research and test laboratories in key disciplines for Industrial Electronics has been secured. On this basis, we strive for unique and excellent value in research, innovation and education. 

A key task for the new head will be to develop the Centre for Industrial Electronics in close collaboration with the CIE partners, comprising leading industries and regional stakeholders. It is expected that the centre will attract significant competitive research funding and will collaborate extensively with industry and with research groups in and across disciplines. Entrepreneurship and commercial activities are also key activities of the centre. 

The position will be at an appropriate academic level up to the rank of full professor. The Head of Section and Centre will report to the Head of the Mads Clausen Institute. Place of employment is Sønderborg. SDU Electrical Engineering has a Deputy Head of Section reporting to the Head of Section and placed in Odense.

Qualifications
The successful candidate holds a PhD in engineering or natural sciences and has an excellent track record in 

  • developing the field of electrical engineering 
  • turning new ideas into industrial practice
  • of at least 5 years in leading and developing top performing teams of 10 or more staff 
  • establishing and running collaborations with leading actors in the field.

Assessment
A panel will assess the qualification of the candidate for the described post based on the submitted material, which should include

  • an overall vision for SDU Electrical Engineering and the development of CIE
  • a Curriculum Vitae and statement of motivation 
  • an account of significant contributions to the development of Electrical Engineering
  • an account of significant contributions to innovation in Industrial Electronics
  • an account of experience in leading and developing top performing teams
  • an account of experience in education and outreach
  • an account of collaborations with leading actors in the field
  • relevant diplomas  
  • a list of publications or patents, top ten marked.
