A position as Hardware Design Engineer working with development of high-end products that improves the life quality of millions of hearing impaired people worldwide, where you will be challenged by designing audio-, radio- and digital-ASICs to function together in compact designs where every mm3 and μA counts. You will be joining a dynamic team of dedicated and experienced multi-disciplined engineers that are developing the next generation Custom hearing aids in the Global Research and Development organization at Widex HQ.

Your Responsibilities
As Hardware Design Engineer you will be overall responsible for the electronics in the next of generation hearing aids. You will be a part of the development process from the very early phases where you will conduct feasibility studies and define the product specifications to designing and maturing the solution and finally verifying the design.

Your focus will be the design of the flexible circuit boards in the hearing aids. The design task includes not only the schematic and layout work, but also higher level design choices. The flexible circuit board integrates audio and DSP ASICs with e.g. Bluetooth radio, sensors, acoustical transducers, power supply, antennas etc., and you will be responsible for ensuring the interaction between these.

The electronics will be designed by using a combination of knowledge from experience, experiments, electro-magnetic theory and results from circuit and FEM simulations. Increasing the use of simulation during development is a strategic focus area in Widex R&D and you will be an important driver in developing and applying simulation tools for e.g. signal integrity and cross talk.

Some of your daily tasks as a Hardware Design Engineer are:

  • Design of the electronics in a hearing aid - including e.g. component selection, schematics and theoretical considerations.
  • Development and application of simulation models for flexible circuit boards and components.
  • Simulation of signal integrity and cross talk.
  • Investigations of future technologies for hearing aids.
  • Collaboration with other engineering disciplines and production to find the optimum solutions for the hearing aid design.

You will be working in a dynamic environment, where contributions from many different stakeholders and professions need to align to develop the best possible products for our customers. The development team includes both electroacoustic, mechanical, RF, and electronic design engineers and covers all aspects of the hearing aid development.  You will be participating both as a specialist in your field and as a generalist when complex problems need solving.

You
We are looking for a candidate with a high level of knowledge and understanding of mixed signal electronics. You are able to use knowledge from your own experience and from theory to design and simulate electronics.

You have an education within electronic engineering, and ideally you have practical experience within the following areas:

  • Design of small and efficient digital and analogue systems - preferably in Altium.
  • Simulation of signal integrity in electrical designs - preferably in Ansys.
  • Verification of electronic performance.
  • Documentation of design and test - preferably within compliance of medical device directive.

Size and efficiency are two essential parameters of a hearing aid, and it is thus important that you feel passionate about development of small, and efficient solutions that deliver the required performance despite the compact physical constraints in a hearing aid. Also, your sense of interaction between electronics, mechanics, acoustics and software must be good.

As a person, you have an innovative mindset and a structured approach to problem solving. You have a passion for electronic design and strive to deliver high quality, but you understand the need for trade-offs between quality and cost while meeting your schedule.
