Join us and become a Geotechnical Engineer in the Geotechnical Engineering department.

As part of the role you’ll be the geotechnical numerical expert on an array of projects related to offshore geotechnical engineering, focusing on large offshore wind farm developments, R&D projects, and in-house software development. You’ll take ownership of geotechnical numerical projects along with several complex tasks, and you’ll be expected to engage in technical discussions and challenge the status quo.

Welcome to Department of Geotechnical Engineering
You’ll be part of the Geotechnical Design & Installation team where you, together with your colleagues, will contribute to the development and integration of numerical modelling in our design processes. You’ll be part of a large and diverse team of more than 50 geotechnical engineers from 19 different countries.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • executing advanced numerical modelling in various projects using purpose-built or commercially available numerical modelling software for analysis of complex soil-structure interaction problems
  • taking responsibility in the selection of geotechnical material models and their calibration based on available data
  • liaising and collaborating with key stakeholders within the geotechnical department and wider foundations group, e.g. structural, loads, and installation departments
  • preparing detailed geotechnical reports and memoranda with the aim of having geotechnical parameters and designing methods approved by a Certification Body
  • assisting in the development of in-house design tools capable of solving complex geotechnical problems related to detailed foundation design of offshore structures (e.g. monopiles, piles, or suction buckets).

To succeed in the role, you:

  • have a thorough understanding of different numerical modelling methods with emphasis on the fundamentals of the FE theory and its applicability in geotechnical engineering (including nonlinear)
  • have in-depth knowledge of soil mechanics and appreciation of advanced constitutive models (i.e. advantages, limitations, and interpretation of lab tests to derive relevant material model inputs)
  • hold a M.Sc. or a Ph.D. degree in civil/geotechnical engineering, with proven background in soil mechanics or foundation engineering, besides having experience with programming software packages, e.g. PYTHON
  • possess good interpersonal and communication skills, and speak and write English fluently
  • preferably have experience with implementing and validating constitutive models and with modelling dynamic or seismic loading
  • have a positive, open-minded, and result-oriented approach to your work and a personal drive to proactively suggest improvements within your area of responsibility.
