The Department of Wind Energy at DTU is expanding within offshore wind energy. We are involved in several projects on floating wind turbines and are constantly improving our calculation methods through scientific research, validation and application studies. We have a strong tradition for aero-elastic modelling and are constantly working to support the design and load analysis for tomorrows 20+ MW class wind turbines. This involves methods and analysis for loads, dynamics, aeroelastic stability, and control of both land-based and offshore/floating wind turbines. The modelling is to a great extent integrated in our HAWC2 hydro-servo-aero-elastic code, which we apply and extend on a daily basis.

The researcher position is part of DTU’s Tenure Track program. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility. We develop talent by offering a career mentor, state-of-the-art research infrastructure, and postgraduate teacher training. DTU’s Tenure Track is an appointment of at most six years, during which you will receive career support in the form of professional and personal guidance. At the end of the tenure track appointment you will be evaluated by an external assessment committee, who will assess your appointment to a permanent Senior Researcher position. Read more about the DTU Tenure Track program at DTU at this homepage.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The position focuses on the following areas

  • Scientific method development and validation within aero-hydro-elasticity for wind turbines and the integration within wind farms.
  • Research based modelling studies of large offshore turbines and new offshore concepts. Often in international collaborative projects and with a focus on the dynamic response under the combined action of wind loads, wave loads and control.
  • Development and support within the HAWC2 code complex, where the methods and findings are implemented.

You will further take part in development of new projects, grant applications and supervision of MSc students. Within the REC section, you will be working as part of a team of scientists and software development engineers, who will provide introduction and training of skills that you may not have upon hire.

We are looking for a Researcher or Senior Researcher with a PhD degree in the broad area of Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil and Offshore Engineering, and with work experience from the field of wind turbine dynamics. We expect that you have postdoctoral research experience or can document relevant industrial research experience within wind energy.

In addition, we expect you to have experience in several of the following technologies and scientific fields:

  • Structural dynamics, multi-body dynamics and elasticity theory
  • FEM based modelling of dynamic structures
  • Wind turbine aero-hydro-elasticity
  • Loads and response for offshore structures
  • Wake modelling for wind turbines
  • Floating wind turbines
  • Programming in Matlab, Python and Fortran

We expect that you share our vision to strive for Wind Energy and its successful application in society are comfortably able to

  • Work independently and to efficiently deliver results on time
  • Work as part of a team in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Take the initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines
  • Communicate in English, both verbally and written

You must contribute to teaching at the Department. You will be expected to learn Danish and be able to teach in Danish after 3 years. DTU can provide Danish language courses.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). If you are applying for the senior researcher position you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc and documented didactic/pedagogic training – for a senior researcher.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicants qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.
