DTU Tenure Track Researcher in Marine Fish Ecology and Management

You will join the research group Marine Habitats working with fish habitats, fish ecology and population dynamics and management of exploited fish stocks. The group is embedded in “Section for Ecosystem based Marine Management” at DTU in Lyngby. The section has 25 employees and focuses on interdisciplinary research improving our understanding of marine ecosystems and how they are managed. It offers an internationally recognised and highly dynamic scientific environment.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your work will contribute to strengthening the knowledge of the coupling between fish habitats, fish ecology, systems management and the research needed for advice in relation to fish exploited either commercially or recreationally, and to EU directives such as the Habitat Directive including NATURA2000 and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).

The research tasks will focus on identifying factors and processes important for recruitment, growth, mortality and distribution of exploited fish and the impact of anthropogenic and climatic factors on these fish populations and habitats. The position includes collaboration with stakeholder organizations, management bodies and Danish and international research institutions. We are looking for an innovative person, preferably a biologist specialised in fish ecology, with a committed and positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, and with ability to work in a team, as well as independently.

The successful applicant will engage in our existing extensive international collaboration with other research institutions as well as fishermen's organisations and be involved in citizen science projects. Important tasks include the development and completion of new research and management projects, publication of results in peer reviewed scientific journals, popular journals and technical reports, and provision of advice in national and international arenas. The candidate will be responsible for planning and completion of dedicated research surveys with the Institute's research vessels or with chartered vessels and is expected to contribute to the development of new methods for documenting natural and anthropogenic impacts on fish stocks important to commercial or recreational fisheries

In the assessment of the candidates, particular consideration will be given to:

• Experience with field work, surveys and experimental laboratory work
• Experience with handling and statistical analysis of large amounts of data
• Experience with fish population analysis and advice
• Publications in international scientific journals

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. You will be expected to learn Danish and be able to teach in Danish after 3 years. DTU can provide Danish language courses.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in fish biology or fish ecology.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicants qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.
