The aim of this “wide-scope” call in Transportation is to attract applicants from different contexts and with different backgrounds and research focuses in order to complement and enrich our current expertise through collaboration. 

 

The positions are offered in the field of transportation science with a focus on one of the following research topics:

 

  • Transport Economics; Assessment of the economic effects of transport policies in various ways using microeconomic theory and microeconometrics. A wide range of policy instruments can be considered, including capacity provision, pricing and taxation, safety initiatives, regulation, parking, and information provision
  • Transport Psychology; Assessment and prediction of road user behavior and mode choice based on cognitive, social and behavioral psychology, development of interventions to change transport related attitudes and behavior, evaluation of legislative safety measures, infrastructure changes, campaigns, new transport modes and services
  • Transport Modelling; Mathematically and algorithmically representing, predicting, and analysing transport phenomena in perspectives that range from private to public transport, real-time operations to long term planning, classical mobility technologies to new “smart” mobility options. Network modelling, demand modelling or machine learning methodologies.

 

The assistant professor position is part of DTU’s Tenure Track program. We provide you with the best conditions including a mentor, state-of-the-art research infrastructure, teacher training and relevant networks. After maximum 6 years you will be evaluated by an external assessment committee, and if evaluated positively, you will acquire a permanent associate professor position.

 

Responsibilities and tasks

Your main activities will include:

 

  • Conducting excellent research in one or more of the above-mentioned research areas and publication of articles in international high-ranked journals
  • Teaching future engineers and researchers in the broad field of transportation science, namely the above mentioned research areas, as well as basic skills courses
  • Attracting external funding to the field of research
  • Participating in projects and collaborations related to research-based public sector support
  • Building and expanding on the national and international network of the Transport division

 

Qualifications

Candidates for an:
 

  • assistant professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • associate professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training

 

Candidates for

  • Transport Economics must hold degrees in economics (or equivalent)
  • Transport Psychology must hold degrees in Psychology (or equivalent behavioural research field), and preferable have an interest for transport safety research
  • Transport modelling must hold a relevant methodological background in e.g. engineering, choice modelling, flow theory, network science, computer science, machine learning, physics, statistics or analytics.

 

All candidates must have documented research experience in the transport domain and preferable experience with both excellence and impact-oriented research, including sector collaboration and public sector research.

 

Moreover, we expect you to focus on making impact to the society and contribute to national and international outreach and dissemination. You enjoy working in a multicultural environment, but also have the curiosity to eventually learn and use the Danish language

 

Assistant Professor position

As a successful Tenure Track candidate, you will meet DTU’s Tenure Track requirements. You have documented teaching experience and have experience in supervising students from Bachelor to PhD. You are among the best research talents in your field with the potential to reach the highest international level. You have documented scientific production at the highest international level and can document initiative for independent and original project ideas. You have the personal drive and potential to attract external funding for research activities and you thrive in a multidisciplinary work environment.

The transport division is one of the leading university groups in Europe in the field of transport research, and offers thus a strong interdisciplinary environment in the field of transport research. We have a close collaboration with the Management Science Division and with Danish Authorities, including a large on-going contract with the Danish Ministry of Transport and Housing, where we carry out policy support to solve the great challenges in the transport sector, particularly related to congestion, environment and safety. Members of the group have been – or are currently - members of several high-level government commissions in the field of transportation research. The division is responsible for DTU’s M.Sc. study in Transport and Logistics.

 

Tenure Track at DTU – Assistant Professor position
DTU offers talented scientists from around the world attractive career perspectives via the DTU Tenure Track Programme. Highly qualified candidates are appointed as assistant professors for a period of up to six years with the prospect of performance-based advancement to a tenured associate professor position.

 

As part of the tenure track position, the candidate receives:

  • Capability development, including postgraduate teacher training
  • A mentoring programme
  • Support to develop scientific networks and to secure interdisciplinary research at the highest level
  • As part of the DTU Tenure Track Programme, the University carries out a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. If the final review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at DTU

 

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
