You will join the Executive Management Team at DTU Biosustain with the dedicated mission to leverage the Center’s worldclass knowledge and discoveries via partnerships with both academic institutions and industry. 

At DTU Biosustain we develop the next generation of sustainable biotechnologies using synthetic biology techniques. We create novel methods and technologies as a foundation for the development of new environmentally friendly products, more energy efficient manufacturing processes, new medical treatments, climate friendly farming, etc. In an environment with state-of-the-art technologies and top scientists from all over the world we are building the knowledge to solve some of the biggest challenges in the history of mankind. In this position, you will get the opportunity to personally impact the development of ground-breaking solutions.

Build strategically based partnerships with academia and industry
Your focus will be to identify potential partners across academia and industry and then lead the process of signing partnership contracts. You will do so in close collaboration with your colleagues in the Executive Management Team, including our Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), our Chief Information Officer (CIO), our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and our Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). You will primarily focus on partnerships within academia and work with our CCO with regard to industry
partnerships. Your tasks will include:

  • Identify and establish contact with potential partners across academia and the biotech industry
  • Head the processes from first contact to signing of contracts – in close dialogue with the Executive Management Team and relevant scientists at the Center
  • Brand the Center’s advanced research and development infrastructures – via conferences, meetings, articles, etc. – supported by our Communication team
  • Contribute to the definition of KPIs for the Center’s Open Science mechanisms
  • Assist in developing career tracks for staff scientists who do not want to follow the traditional
  • academic career paths, as well formulate a strategy for achieving gender balance at all levels at DTU Biosustain
  • Inspire and mentor young scientists at the Center

An example of a partnership could be within the microbial food application area at DTU Biosustain, where our knowledge can be supplemented by capabilities in both academia and industry. Another partnership could potentially come within big data science where our informatics specialist team have developed a new informatics platform to derive deep insights from big data by use of artificial intelligence, mechanistic modelling, and knowledge graphs. A vital part of your road to success is based on your ability to navigate the existing network and contacts of the Center’s Scientists – to nurture and facilitate outreach based on a bottom-up approach where dialogues are developed and relationships build based on the needs of the Center Scientists.

This bridging role between Center researchers and synergistic industrial and academic environments in Denmark and abroad is central to success in your new position. You will report to the Center’s CEO, manage your own budget and be supported by our administrative team. Your new workplace is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) at DTU in Lyngby Copenhagen. We have the funding, the know-how, and the latest state-of-the-art technology and  quipment needed to succeed.

PhD with solid networking experience and understanding of research environments We are looking for a genuine networker with combined scientific and commercial expertise. You must have communication skills to tailor your messages to your audience whether you are addressing top class scientists or the business community. We also hope you are motivated by people management/mentoring as you will get the chance to influence and mentor the next generation of scientists in Denmark.

Additionally, your CV comprises:

  • A PhD degree in natural science
  • 10+ years of documented research experience
  • Managerial experience including establishment of strategic partnerships and networking
  • Deep understanding of the aspirations, goals and value chains within research environments in both academia and industry
  • An established network across academia and industry in Denmark
  • Fluency in Danish, written and spoken, will be considered an advantage but is not a prerequisite (fluency in both written and spoken English is an absolute requirement though)

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
