About the department
The Department of Bacteria, Parasites and Fungi, Section for Foodborne Infections, works with control of infectious bacteria. We have implemented next generation sequencing (NGS) of bacteria as an advanced tool in our surveillance for outbreak detection and as part of our research projects.

About the position
You will be a part of a team with strong ambitions on development of new techniques for understanding microbial evolution, optimizing use of NGS data for surveillance and investigations of foodborne outbreaks. The position will involve a multitude of projects and tasks including:

  • Validation of AMR patterns predicted from NGS data
  • Implementation of various new bioinformatics tools including genome comparisons, metagenome analysis 
  • Code maintenance, database management

Required qualifications
You are a bioinformatician (MSc or PhD) and are a skilled coder with experience in programming (Python preferably), phylogenetic analyses, statistics and handling large data sets.

You are an enthusiastic and creative person with an interest in combining bioinformatics and microbiology to improve a user-friendly surveillance system based on NGS to solve both large and small bioinformatics problems.  You have excellent cooperation and communication skills and are able to apply theory to practice.

We offer an interesting job with highly qualified colleagues in a dedicated team consisting of 14 scientists and 9 laboratory technicians working on surveillance and research in relation to typing and epidemiology of foodborne pathogens. You will also be part of the department’s group of bioinformaticians, who work closely together.

Terms of employment
The position is limited to one year with the possibility of extension, depending on the funding situation. The position is covered by the terms of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. In addition to the salary, a monthly contribution to a pension fund is added (17.1% of the salary).
