BIM Coordinator, seconded to Chennai, India

Internationally, COWI holds a strong competitive position in the building and infrastructure market, taking on a wide range of complex multidisciplinary projects. We are looking for a BIM coordinator to be seconded to our Indian Building department - are you ready for new challenges?

Today, COWI is seeing an increasing demand for our services and we aim to deliver substantial results. This strengthened position in the market brings a continuous flow in new extensive and challenging projects.

For years, it has been part of COWI's strategy to use distributed work for design projects. On Danish projects, we include Indian engineers and BIM modelers who cooperate closely with Danish colleagues.

Consequently, our Danish Buildings business unit, which numbers approx. 400 employees, run an office in Chennai with 50 Indian engineers and BIM modelers who are involved in projects in Denmark and other parts of the world. This boosts our competitive strength and our flexibility in terms of staff levels and project deliverables. In order to secure even smoother cooperation and to maintain a high level of quality and up-to-date knowledge of the Danish building industry, we also have Danish engineers and BIM coordinators at the Chennai office.

As a BIM coordinator you will be part of our team of Indian mechanical engineers and BIM modelers. You will act as liaison between our Indian and Danish offices, participate in design activities on projects that involve Danish and Indian cooperation, and you will be a sparring partner for our Indian colleagues in REVIT MEP, mechanical engineering and ventilation.

Furthermore, you will work closely with our Danish liaisons in electrical installations and structural engineering. You will play a central role in improving our distributed work efforts, working to realize our ambitions of increasing our market shares, turnover and profitability.

Moreover, you will work with the other Danish colleagues at the Chennai office - including Danish colleagues visiting the office to kick off new projects, etc. - and, given your knowledge of REVIT, we expect you to be able to influence and contribute to further enhancing the department's competencies in REVIT and BIM.

You will report to our Head of the MEP Section at the Chennai office. The position involves a one or two-year secondment, preferably starting in November 2017. You will start at one of the COWI offices in Denmark before you are seconded to the Chennai office.

Your qualifications and personal qualities
You hold a Bachelor degree (BSc) in mechanical engineering or a Bachelor degree in Archirechtural Technology (konstruktør). You have three years of experience within design and/or modelling from major Danish building projects that uses REVIT MEP for drawing mechanical and ventilation installations.

Additionally, you can recognise yourself in the following statements:

• You are an experienced user of MagiCAD VVS and Ventilation
• You are able to act as a mentor and sparring partner for our Indian mechanical engineering colleagues
• You understand cultural differences and the opportunities they offer in day-to-day activities
• You master Danish and English, written and spoken
• You are a team player and able to build bridges between project participants and to guide/head colleagues
• You are an attentive communicator and you resolve conflicts in a smooth and constructive manner
• You are proactive, ambitious and full of initiative
• You are structured, quality-minded and flexible, and you pride yourself on delivering high quality on time
• You thrive in a busy environment with deadlines, challenges and change
• You are familiar with the role of ICT coordinator as per Danish building regulations
• Experience with drawing electrical installations and structures in REVIT and AutoCAD would be preferred.

COWI as a work place
We will assist you in all the practicalities in connection with your relocation to Chennai. Prior to the secondment, you will work from one of our office in Denmark where you will be trained in COWI standards and working procedures and get the chance to establish a network of Danish colleagues.

After the secondment in Chennai, you will return to one of our offices in Denmark to work as design engineer or mechanical engineer, where you will have the opportunity to work on international projects from Denmark or abroad.
