Visionary, ambitious and structured automation engineer/scientist with a desire to work with automation of screening assays and data processing.

We are looking for an automation engineer/scientist for our Microbial Screening unit. You will be part of a team of 4 scientists and 6 technicians. You will work on automating screening assays, reduce manual work flows and automate data processing workflows. The Microbial Screening unit aims at delivering microbial leads to the Chr. Hansen value chain by applying classical microbiology combined with automated high throughput screening. The unit consists of two departments, Culture collection and Screening dept. We maintain and expand the existing culture collection and continuously work on phenotypic characterization of existing and new strains. We work in close collaboration with colleagues from R&D Discovery and other entities of Chr. Hansen.

The job
Your main responsibility will be to design and implement automated workflows for liquid handling robots (Hamilton) including data processing. You will work closely together with scientists and technicians internally but also across departments, typically within projects. As a scientist you will also be involved in planning experimental work that can be conducted by lab technicians under your supervision. We aim at ensuring intellectual property rights with patents and subsequently publish work in peer reviewed journals. Your work will also include establishing contact with and participating in relevant collaborations with external partners.

Work will include:

  • Designing and implementing automation protocols for screening assays and automating data processing workflows
  • Designing, planning and supervising experiments, conducted by lab technicians.
  • Analyse and interpret data, conclude and document work in technical reports.
  • Presenting results to internal stake holders and collaborators

You

  • are educated as an engineer/microbiologist/biochemist and hold a PhD within one of these areas
  • have expertise in automation of screening assays and digital workflows
  • are strong in data management and analyzing multivariate data
  • have experience using Shiny for web apps or similar expertise
  • are good at communicating results to peers and non-experts
  • are ambitious and like to continuously learn new professional and personal skills

We offer
We offer a permanent position in a stimulating, international workplace in a professional organization focused on linking solid scientific research to business opportunities. In addition, we offer a good team with dedicated colleagues and modern research laboratories.

With continued ambitions to grow organically 8-10%, we constantly need to improve our ways of working. In R&D we are responsible for developing new products and processes for food cultures, animal-, human- and plant health. Our ingredients assist in shaping the appearance, taste, nutritional value and health benefits of a variety of food products. The Microbial Screening unit within the Discovery organization in R&D is responsible for the culture collection, screening and phenotypic characterization of new strains allowing selection of new leads for new product development activities. We aim at delivering high quality results, using robotized liquid handling platforms. We are a company based on science and we aim to deliver cutting edge products, derived from our screening efforts. We combine phenotypic characterization with other data e.g. genomics and metabolomics to select optimal leads for product development
